Phillips was pretty damn good this year. I didn't know how good he was against the run. He was pretty active. Much better than Doom was.

I'm kind of expecting the same thing minus a Vasquez type signing. Elway and Co. have shown a great hand at finding reasonably priced FA's so, I think we'll get some talent on the cheap, but even moreso than last year, I think we have some huge contracts coming due that will require some serious investments. We are good at playing games with the cap though, so who knows.

I would definitely prefer an entertaining offseason though.
I think Elway understood that we needed some front line help and went out and got some. Looking towards this FA cycle, Denver needs a difference maker rushing the passer especially with Miller's issues coming in. We can get along w/ Irvin at SAM but what killed us in the super bowl was not having that difference maker impacting the opposing team via our front seven. I don't expect splash signings every year but I think that Denver is going to push the envelope to add somebody at DE and possibly S. I think Denver will look over Houston, Johnson, Greg Hardy hard core and if they can't get those guys, I have no doubt that we'll be bringing in guys like Jared Allen, Julius Peppers (will get cut) among others to try and sign them up. I think if Denver can get a guy like Hardy to sign up it really covers this defense should Von flame out in a year or two and we have to let him walk. The salaries would be switching, no big deal. I have an idea that Elway already knows what Denver will be doing with Von long term by watching his antics and how he is around the facility.

I am interested to see what happens with Decker. I truly feel that him leaving will affect both the WR depth and Holliday's standing with the team.
There are quite a few WR's who are also good return men in the draft.
Mike Davis at Texas, Odell Beckham Jr at LSU, Bruce Ellington at SC, Josh Huff at UO, Robert Herron at Wyoming, Davante Adams at Fresno St. There are also quite a few RB's who can come in and be a speed back plus a returner.

Ellington is raw but could be special. Also going to be a 3rd rounder.

I honestly would not be shocked to see him get drafted in the 2nd round if he runs a 4.48 40 or so. He is a flexible guy you can use at Slot, a bit at RB, have him as a returner and use for trick plays.
He is small but he has some really good wiggle.

Id contemplate signing McCluster for the scat back role and use the draft picks on the line or defense. His value is highest in KC

Sign away a player for Capt checkdown

I like Dee Ford. But he would essentially play Von's role for us.
Not sure he can add the weight needed to be a every down DE.
He would definitely be flexible in our scheme.

Another intriguing prospect is Khalil Mack of Buffalo. He could be a pass rushing OLB at 6'3, 250.

Yeah, there's no way he makes it to 20, let alone 31.

Unless he breaks, tears, fractures or chronics something during or after the combine.
No way he makes it past #12. Too many teams with pass rushing needs.

You want to spend a first rounder on a guard in this draft? Wow, no thanks!

I kind of agree with Kiper for once. I don't think a OG goes in round 1.
I like Xavier Su'a-Filo for us in the 2nd or 3rd.

I didnt say where to pick him. He won't go in the first. He's better at run blocking than we've had in a while. People crying about the run? He'll fix it. And Elway knows all about him.

Not really. Elvis in his last year on Denver's roster was on par with Phillips this year regarding sacks. Phillips also didn't have the benefit of rushing opposite of Miller most of the year. Look at their stats this year, Phillips was a much better player. Elvis is overrated. Awful run defender, on the downside of his pass rushing ability. To boot Denver saved millions with Phillips over Doom.

Elway strikes again. Even when he loses, he wins.

Dumervils last year he constantly rushed the QB into mistakes/incompletes. I didn't see that much this year on our team. QBs with all day to set their feet, sit and wait for the open man. Dumervil did a lot more than just the sack stat.

Anyone have thoughts on Kyle Fuller, the corner from VaTech? I like the little bit that I've seen of him, but he doesn't seem like a super physically impressive guy.

If Broncos want to win the Superbowl, all they have to do is figure out a way to get Ryan Shazier on this football team. Drop a 3rd, and move up as far as you possibly can. The dude is for real. This is the half-field LB they've been waiting on all these years. Imagine that Defense, holy cow.

2nd round Paul Richardson to be starting Z WR.
