I thought Beason was beasting for the Giants. I'd be surprised if he reaches FA. But if he does, I'd bet the Broncos look at him because he was Carolina's MLB until Kuechly showed up. He's had a lot of injuries but when he's playing, he's real good.

Draft a ****ing prototype athlete for MLB. 3 Down MLB. Wanna get physical? Get some physical linebackers to lay some haymakers on RBs and LB's over the middle.

We must appease the football gods and fix the mistake of last season and sign Dansby. It doesn't matter if he never touches the field. He just has to be on the team.

For what? He's essentially a 260+ lb Joe Mays.
He works great for the Patriots D but not do well for ours.

Irving was set to be the MLB this year, but Miller screwed that up by getting suspended and moving Irving back to the outside. I don't know if Irving would have picked it up, but he really didn't get much of a chance to find out.

I would kick the tires on the bolded ones. Most interesting is Vilma but not sure if I am living in the past there

I just read that first sentence as "Skov has stiff nips..."

he has had 3 years to show any ability to play the position in the NFL. how many opportunities does the guy need?

Nate Irving's career is a triumph, considering he almost had his leg amputated. However, he is not the solution for us at MIKE.

Fyi, here's what Elway actually said about a year ago:

Quote:
"If you look at where we are, 65 percent of our snaps last year we were in nickel," Elway said, referring to the defensive package in which the middle linebacker is replaced by an extra defensive back. "I'm not trying to downplay the importance of that position. But nickel is so important too.

But Irving hasn't been given a chance to play MLB consistently at all in games. Seriously tell me the all the games he has started at MIKE. He has yet to be given a serious opportunity to play Mike full time for even a few games. Other than that one mental lapse with the penalty on special teams he has played well. He makes plays and plays with an attitude, one I wish a lot of other "proven" guys on our defense would play with.

I agree if not for Von's suspension and injury he would have played MIKE over Paris late this season. Maybe he is better suited to play SLB but until we see him with at least 3 or 4 games behind his belt like Paris and WW got, you can't say he has been given a fair opportunity.

While you have valid points, he has been given the keys to the car so to speak, and hasn't been able to take advantage. All the indicators were this past offseason, that Irving was getting it and he was ready to show what he was made of, our Brass said its his job to lose. Yet he never drove the car.

I understand the Von suspension and injury shuffled the position. But he has never taken advantage of the opportunity to be our starting MLB. Why would this year be any different?

if he isn't good enough to earn the position in practice why should he be given the position to try to earn it in games? he was penciled in as the starter at MIKE before the season started because there was no one else on the roster. he got it by default.

This - my guess would be the staff knew Von's drug suspension was imminent and the Nate Irving MLB experiment got derailed early on as he was Von's backup last year.

Note Irving, for me, was a bright spot in the Super Bowl...played hard, got some nice hits in, and had a great pass defense in the back of the end zone.

They wanted Irving to be more vocal before the season started. Irving said it's unnatural for him but he was trying to change.

That says all you need to know.

If we want a stud MLB Vet to come in and play at a high level right away it would have to be through trade. None of these dude say home run MLB for the next 4 or more years.

Connor would fit the one year signing role Fox and JDR have pulled off the last couple years.

I saw the Elway quote. I wonder if he down plays the position because they got by all those years he played without a real legit MLB.
