Default Jihadists over run Free Syrian Army headquarters

According to reliable Mideast reporter Patrick Cockburn, 10 days ago the Syrian war took a dramatic turn - one that totally discredits the US claim that moderate Syrian rebels dominate the resistance.

The jihadist rebels are being funded and armed by Saudi Arabia and Qatar -- with Turkey also helping. The US & UK have also been in the act --

Is this even being reported on US TV?

US/British Policy on Syria has Been Sunk, and Nobody Noticed
Free Syrian Army a Complete Pawn to Foreign Intelligence Agencies

World View: The West’s favoured faction is on the run, while the Riyadh-backed rebels steadily gain ground

By Patrick Cockburn

December 15, 2013 "Information Clearing House - "The Independent" -
The final bankruptcy of American and British policy in Syria came 10 days ago as Islamic Front, a Saudi-backed Sunni jihadi group, overran the headquarters of the Supreme Military Council of the Free Syrian Army (FSA) at Bab al-Hawa on the Syrian side of the border with Turkey.

The FSA, along with the Syrian National Coalition, groups that the United States and Britain have been pretending for years are at the heart of Syrian military and political opposition, has been discredited. The remaining FSA fighters are in flight, have changed sides, or are devoting all their efforts to surviving the onslaught from jihadi or al-Qa’ida-linked brigades.

The US and Britain stopped the delivery of non-lethal aid to the supply depot at Bab al-Hawa as the implications of the disaster sank in. The West’s favourite rebel commander, General Salim Idris, was on the run between Turkey and his former chief supporter and paymaster, Qatar. Turkey closed the border, the other side of which is now controlled by the Islamic Front. The so-called moderate wing of the Syrian insurgency has very limited influence, but its representatives are still being urged by Washington and London to attend the peace conference in Geneva on 22 January to negotiate Bashar al-Assad’s departure from power.

Confusion over what is happening is so great that Western leaders may not pay as much of a political price at home as they should for the failure of their Syrian policy. But it is worth recalling that the Syrian National Coalition and the FSA are the same people for whom the US and UK almost went to war in August, and saw as candidates to replace Assad in power in Damascus. The recent debacle shows how right public opinion in both countries was to reject military intervention.

Default Hersh on Democracy Now!

Sy Hersh has also weighed in -- recently posted a scathing indictment of Obama's attempt to use US military force in Syria.

Hersh's post supports the Russian claim that radical jihadists staged the chemical attack in August -- and blamed it on Syrian president Assad.

Consider this thread in light of the new article in the NY Post about the Saudi role in 9/11.

Saudis' Big Deal for Anti-tank Missiles May be Meant to Help Syrian Rebels

By South China Morning Post

December 15, 2013 "Information Clearing House - "SCMP"
-No one is expecting a tank invasion of Saudi Arabia anytime soon, but the kingdom just put in a huge order for US-made anti-tank missiles that has Saudi-watchers scratching their heads and wondering whether the deal is related to Riyadh’s support for the Syrian rebels.

The proposed weapons deal, which the Pentagon notified Congress of in early December, would provide Riyadh with more than 15,000 Raytheon anti-tank missiles at a cost of over US$1 billion. According to the International Institute for Strategic Studies’ Military Balance report, Saudi Arabia’s total stockpile this year amounted to slightly more than 4,000 anti-tank missiles. In the past decade, the Pentagon has notified Congress of only one other sale of anti-tank missiles to Saudi Arabia – a 2009 deal that shipped roughly 5,000 missiles to the kingdom.

Hardly 'new,' a little digging clearly indicates it's a curiously timed re-run of the same 'story' circulating since at least 2003.

Washington Drives the World Toward War

By Paul Craig Roberts

December 14, 2013 "Information Clearing House
- Washington has had the US at war for 12 years: Afghanistan, Iraq, Somalia, Libya, Pakistan, Yemen, and almost Syria, which could still happen, with Iran waiting in the wings. These wars have been expensive in terms of money, prestige, and deaths and injuries of both US soldiers and the attacked civilian populations. None of these wars appears to have any compelling reason or justifiable explanation. The wars have been important to the profits of the military/security complex. The wars have provided cover for the construction of a Stasi police state in America, and the wars have served Israel’s interest by removing obstacles to Israel’s annexation of the entire West Bank and southern Lebanon.

As costly and destructive as these wars have been, they are far below the level of a world war, much less a world war against nuclear armed opponents.

The fatal war for humanity is the war with Russia and China toward which Washington is driving the US and Washington’s NATO and Asian puppet states. There are a number of factors contributing to Washington’s drive toward the final war, but the overarching one is the doctrine of American exceptionalism.

According to this self-righteous doctrine, America is the indispensable country. What this means is that the US has been chosen by history to establish the hegemony of secular “democratic capitalism” over the world. The primacy of this goal places the US government above traditional morality and above all law, both its own and international.

According to journalist Patrick Cockburn -- a Mideast specialist -- the Saudis have allocated $billions to arm and train a 40,000-50,000 man Al Qaeda army to destroy Syria and overthrow Shi'ites rule in Iraq.

Is the US press covering this?

Why do we have to go to the Independent (UK) to hear about it?
