Manning would have won every super bowl with Elway's teams. Handing off to TD is something Manning would love to do!. Seriously homers, it's not even close. MANNING >>>>>>Elway everyday of the week, including Thursdays.

Sorry, just the facts.

It's a biased answer because he was the greatest QB in the history of the franchise, and as an Elway fan I enjoyed watching him. But he was not on Peyton's level. Not even close.

Interestingly before he won the SBs hebwas also considered a QB who couldn't win the big game.
Stopped reading after those first dozen words (oh, and you have a typo there; should have read "of the greatest" instead of "if the greatest"). When the topic of conversation is "the greatest QB of all time", YES, Elway's name is always mentioned (even outside of Denver!!!). The general consensus of opinion is that maybe -- just maybe -- Joe Montana might have been better than Elway.

That said, like Elway -- Manning will be a first-ballot Hall of Famer and I'm glad he plays for the Denver Broncos.

Google "greatest quarterbacks of all time". Elway is in the top 4 at almost every site linked on the front page. I only saw one #5 and several #1's.

Stronger Arm, Elway all day. Even Peyton earlier in his career had a good arm but not Elway strong. Peyton is throwing close to how he used to, even after 4 neck surgeries, duck tape, and nerve damage. Peyton needs to use his legs to drive the ball.

Athletically it's not a contest. And watching Peyton sometimes especially in the Raven game last year in OT on the pick, when he started running, I had visions of Elway and realized if he got helicoptered he (Manning) might not get up.

But Elway was gritty and that makes Elway well Elway. But Peyton revolutionized the QB position and how the game is played. He will probably hold all the records when he retires, and hopefully he can add more of the most important hardware to his legacy and to this franchise!

Blow Cock. When or if Manning win us a Super Bowl then you can make statements like that. How dare you put number 7 to the side when he scratch and clawed his way to 3 Super Bowl Apperances with mediocre WR's like Mark Jackson and Vance Johnson and at best a so and so RB in Sammy Winder.

What do yard birds have to do with this topic?

I would take Elway over Montana or Kelly, does that make you feel better?
Everyday over brady but Manning? Not if we are talking about the best to play the posistion,
Manning is in a class by himself.

Manning won't survive in the 80's he fell in the right generation Elway was a Iron man in a No Holds Barred NFL. Manning is the best QB in this generation but Elway is the Best QB of all time.

Manning's tough. He could survive the '80s. He's a bigger stronger version of his dad who survived on the 'Aints in the 70s.

Manning was the Iron Man of the NFL prior to the 4 neck surgeries. Let's us not forget he was on pace to break Brett Favres record of consecutive games started.

I was a big fan and admirer of Elway. I'm not trying to stir up trouble here, this is a touchy subject. Elway is the face of the francise. And nobody would like the idea of a QB who will only play a portion of his career in Denver to be recognized as the best QB to play in a Denver uniform.

Sorry. Probably a generational thing. But I would take John Elway in a shi--y Cleveland Municipal Stadium with wackos throwing frozen milk bones at his head over Peyton any day.

That being said. I have never seen a better student of the game, or a smarter QB in my lifetime than 18. And he is a tremendous person off the field too.

Also, any QB is winning rings when TD is your running back.

Every QB needs help to win a Super Bowl the QB takes you there and the team wins it. Elway never had any help only help he had was towards the end of his career. If Elway had Wayne,Marvin and E.James his whole career Denver would of booked in at least 5 Super Bowls.

I hope Manning wins 2 Super bowls, and goes down as the greatest ever. Because that's what Elway wants.

Marvin was a great one, the other two marginal at best. Go ahead and rank James and (cut route short) Wayne. Defense wins championships and clearly Manning has never had one.

Neither did Elway.

A few great players, no doubt. Atwater, Meck, Smith and I'll throw Romo in there as well. But a great D? Elway never had that on his side.

The 1989 and 1991 defenses were pretty good.

1993 was the really the first year Elway was being complemented with a better supporting cast and offensive coaching philosophies.

The 1997 and 1998 defenses weren't shutdown defenses, but they made so many big plays. Obviously, they were good enough to win two rings.

When and what D that Elway had? The only true orange crush member Elway had in his prime was a old Tom Jackson for that 86 run.

Nope. He would be retired now had he been existed in Elways era.

I always thought the balance of all three phases were what won SB's. No one unit could do it alone

That 96,97 and 98 defense wasn't shut down maybe top 15 at there time. 97 defense barely stop Bret in the Super Bowl and the 98 defense are secretly thanking Gary Anderson's foot in the 98 NFC championship.

Notice Peyton's body language and pouty looks on his face when things aren't going his way. The Duke never did that. Ever.

The game is at least twice as fast, violent, and dangerous currently than it has ever been. Elway wouldn't be "heloing" in todays game.

Watch and compare for yourself.

This is silly. Denver the franchise and the fan base is VERY fortunate to have had two of the best QBs ever to play, play for the team. Let's hope Peyton can win multiple SBs like Elway and bring it back to Denver!

It's all opinion and preference for 97 or 13 anyway. Chocolate or Vanilla, Under Armour or Nike, Cheese or Pepperoni, Coke or Pepsi, Turkey or Ham... Lamb or Tuna.

End Thread.

That is just something people say. The rules however have made faster wide open play possible. With Elways arm, durability, and scrambling capability he would have thrived, where as the pure pocket play of Manning would have got him killed.
