Yup, I almost hope the Mariners over pay so the Yanks can move on and spend elsewhere. He's a very good player but not worth > $200. And at some point down the road it will be a "bad contract".

Doug Fister is a good pitcher. I was upset when the Mariners dished him out. He would have had a much better record here if we had given him run support.

As far as Cano, that means we don't have any faith in Dustin Ackley and are going to dish him out. The Mariners need a good player, but that $ is outrageous.

Felix + Cano = LOTSA CASH

^ Glad the Mariners didn't trade for him like they were rumored to.

But all this talk makes me remember the ESPN trade proposal article indicating the Dodgers trade for David Price. No way would the Dodgers be able to afford Kershaw, Greinke, Haren, Beckett and Price oh and lets not forget Billingsley as well. That would be like $100 million on 6 starting pitchers just about.
Doug Fister has two years of arbitration left before he becomes a free agent.

I read somewhere that he is schedule to make $4 million this season, but will probably make closer to $7 million or $8 million after arbitration.

I would have rather seen the Tigers trade away Rick Porcello.

I know Rick Porcello will only be 25 years old next season, but I think he is only slightly above average.

Are they moving Fister in the hopes of signing a bigger named FA pitcher this off-season? That was a stupid move for them. Fister was relatively cheap compared to what they might pay on the market (15 mil a season) for who is out there.

The Mariners and Robinson Cano are in agreement on a 10-year, $240MM contract, according to Enrique Rojas of ESPNDeportes.com (Spanish link). The contract, negotiated by CAA's Brodie Van Wagenen and Jay-Z of Roc Nation Sports, will tie Albert Pujols for the third-largest deal in Major League history.

What a colossal mistake for all parties involved (other than Cano's bank account).

The Yankees stuck to their guns.

Can't say I blame them after all the times they've been burned by the later years of big contracts.

I agree, I didn't want the Yanks to go remotely that many years or that much $ so I don't blame them. I just think everybody loses here. Unless all Cano cares about is money which appears to be the case (and he has every right to choose).

One less thorn in the Red Sox side.

Yanks better make a big splash elsewhere with that money and address their serious holes in the pitching staff or they'll be looking at the basement next season.

Basement? The Yanks won 85 games despite being gutted by injuries last year. I bet they'll sign at least one more notable position player. As for pitching, they'll bring Kuroda back and probably sign at least one FA pitcher. And they'll go hard for Masahiro Tanaka if he posts.

I was exaggerating for effect, but they missed the playoffs last year and they've got about 8 or 9 new holes to fill. They better hope Ellsbury not only stays healthy, but gets back on the roids or they'll be in real trouble and may have another hole to fill.

That contract would be a tough pill to swallow, even for the Yankees.

Too many stupid contracts over the years led to the "luxury tax mandate", but I don't begrudge Cano for taking the money.

They'll be fine.

Yanks will probably sign somebody like Shin-Soo Choo or Carlos Beltran who, along with McCann and Ellsbury, will greatly improve the lineup. They may also go after Omar Infante or Brandon Phillips to take over at 2nd. And they'll possibly sign Ervin Santana, Matt Garza, or Ubaldo Jimenez to help shore up the starting staff (along with possibly Tanaka). They can't afford to miss the playoffs again this year (see article below).

The New York Mets and free-agent outfielder Curtis Granderson have agreed on a four-year, $60 million deal, pending the outcome of a physical, sources have told ESPN.

Glad to see Cano is a Mariner. Finally, a legit bat and some run support for our pitching. I don't want to trade for price and give up Walker.

I can understand the excitement from a Mariners fan perspective. But that is a terrible contract. The Yankess max offer was supposedly 7/$175 and even that was hard to swallow.

I am not worried about the contract.

The Mariners never spent that $ on anyone (besides Felix) in the past decade. It is about time we got proactive about things.

I'll take overpaying for Cano to come play for us, than trading a guy like Adam Jones for Erik Bedard.

Please no trades for Price or anyone that involves our top prospect. NO.

It'll be a good contract for the first 5 years perhaps, but paying someone $24 million a season at 36-41 years old is likely not to end well in the later years of that deal.

Greatly improve?

Cano + Granderson are better hitters than McCann and Ellsbury. They better hope significantly more help is on the way before they even break even in the moves made thus far.
