Miggy will be able to move back to 1st base, which will mean less wear and tear on his body.

UGH! I like what Padres did today with Josh Johnson. Fielder going to Texas would be huge for them. No one since Texiera has they filled in a big time spot at first.

I'm ok with the trade, as Prince Fielder didn't feel like a good fit with the Tigers for whatever reason.

I'm happy that Miggy will be able to move back to 1st base, which will help him stay healthier as he enters his 30s.

Ian Kinsler will be a nice addition at 2nd base.

I'm not sure what kind of cash the Tigers will have to kick in to make this deal happen, but if it frees up some payroll, it may increase the chances of Max Scherzer remaining/re-signing with the Tigers.

This trade will also allow the Tigers to insert top prospect Nick Castellanos in the lineup at his natural position of 3rd base when Miggy moves back to 1st base.

NEW YORK -- After wooing Brian McCann during a visit to the Bronx this week, the New York Yankees have agreed to a five-year, $85 million contract with the catcher that includes a vesting option for a sixth season that could push the total to $100 million, a source has told ESPNNewYork.com.

I think this is a horrible signing, basically anybody signing McCann the team will regret it.
He's shown being on the decline, going to be 30 next season, his best years are likely behind him.

Maybe. But the reactions I'm reading this morning seem to be generally positive. He fills a huge need for the Yanks, his power numbers should increase in Yankee stadium, he can transition to DH over the contract now that he's in the AL, and he's good defensively.

I mean, if he can put up decent numbers as a DH, I suppose, but he never had a high WAR as a player, I just feel maybe a shorter deal would've been a better investment.

Still kind of in shock of the Fielder for Kinsler deal, makes sense for both sides though.

Doug Fister to the Nats.

Wonder what the return is, but Rizzo does it right.

The Washington Nationals acquired pitcher Doug Fister in a Monday night trade with the Detroit Tigers

In exchange, the Nationals sent infielder Steve Lombardozzi, left-hander Ian Krol and minor league lefty Robbie Ray to the Tigers.

Fister, 29, went 14-9 with a 3.67 ERA in 33 games last year in his third season with the Tigers. Fister was tied for the American League lead in getting batters to ground into double plays. He allowed 0.6 home runs per nine innings, second best in the AL.

I don't like that trade at all....Doug Fister is a very underrated starting pitcher.

Don't really get that trade from Detroit's perspective. Doesn't even save them that much money. The Fielder trade made sense as far as long term money saved

I think it really shows that the Tigers had to win it this year, and failed.

Yeah, but what do they really get out of dealing Fister? His overall numbers were good and he wasn't costing a lot. Guess Ray is seen as a good prospect, but it just seems like a puzzling move to me. Good news for the rest of the teams in the AL Central, most likely.

I don't like the trade at all, but Dave Dombrowski is a damn good GM and usually comes out on top in trades.

I think this was a move made to free up some money to re-sign Miguel Cabrera and Max Scherzer and also allow the Tigers to sign a couple of free agents.

Dombrowski said the trade wasn't about saving money, but that's what it looks like to me.

Nice....the Tigers have needed an excellent closer for a long time.

Joe Nathan just turned 39 years old, but has pitched very well the last few seasons.

Fister wasn't costing anything really either, only 4 million. Is he due for free agency soon? Its not like he would demand a ton of money, since he is going to be turning 30 in February.

But all this talk makes me remember the ESPN trade proposal article indicating the Dodgers trade for David Price. No way would the Dodgers be able to afford Kershaw, Greinke, Haren, Beckett and Price oh and lets not forget Billingsley as well. That would be like $100 million on 6 starting pitchers just about.

I think its ridiculous what he is asking for. I wouldn't want to give him a contract longer than 5 years personally.
