When you live in a po-dunk place with no pro sports teams (New Mexico), it's quite easy to latch onto a strange combo of teams. It took watching Steve Yzerman playing one game on KTLA v the LA Kings when I was 13 to make me a wings fan for good.

The Bronco love is easy--those guys came down here every offseason to do benefit tennis tournaments and other social events--very gracious guys--and we repaid 'em by owning season seats and backing 'em come hell or high water.

Not all of us can live in a city with 4 major sports teams in it.

Titles are irrelevant. It's about the demeanor, false bravado, and delusional rantings, not the titles.

Why didn't the Kings win you over? Was this in the late 90s where we absolutely sucked?

Ha ha, no it was 1983. Pre gretzky, with simmer, Dionne, and Taylor. might've been nicholls rookie year too. Though I've always liked the kings and had season tix in the early 90's when I lived there.

Nice effort from the Flower....especially in the third with some big saves including one on a penalty shot. His confidence really needed that, especially with no one behind him now (Vokoun out 3-6 mos). Sid with a nice goal. Geno was quiet outside of creating a couple chances, one of which was flubbed by Jokinen.

We looked great in the first, NJ took it to us in the second (for some reason we have always had bad second periods) and meh in the third until that third goal which swinged the mo back. Scuds looked good tonight. Olli Maata had some deer in the headlights moments which is to be expected since this was his first game and his debut was one year ahead of schedule. He needs to get more comfortable if he is to stay beyond the first 9 games.

I hope Nealer is ok.
The league should just divide all points earned against the Devils by 2 this year - does any team look more ready for that 1st overall pick than the broke ass AHL team in Jersey?

oh well....hockey is awesome regardless of the team you cheer for.

good luck in the eastern conference. I could easily see the Wings walking away with the #1 seed.

Yeah I am just happy Hockey is going to fun in Colorado this year.

I don't agree we're the Bengals, though. I honestly think this franchise has followed a very similar course to the Broncos.

Yes definitely more similar to the Broncos. A couple of titles followed by a good stretch of suck... Hopefully this is the beginning of some exciting hockey. All my Red Wing friends I play beer league hockey with hate Roy, which of course makes me grin!

Any idea why Landeskog was a scratch?

Good game matchup w/ the Preds. Offensive speed on speed. Looked like a trackmeet out there in the 1st period. Avs hanging on to the 2-1 lead in the 3rd period, 10 minutes to go.

Still clinging to that lead with 3:20 to go. This is a good early litmus test for this team.

Last year they lose this game. In regulation.

The Downie hit was vicious... and beautiful. Wonder if he will get a suspension with his rep.

detroit redwings. despite being in an eight team league, from the 50's to 70's. didnt win a cup from 1955 'til 1996. finding out a bronco fan is a redwing fan is like finding out one of your friends is a racist bigot. sad.

so all those years the wings sucked-as in decades of suck.Sucked more or less than the avs?
Sorry, but Avs fans have more hate-respect for the dallas stars more, they beat us more in the scwcf than the redwings.
cheering for the redwings is like cheering for the raiders.

I have a ton of family from MI and went to Western Michigan U. They're huge hockey fans but don't watch any other sports. My dad's side of the family, from Denver, are diehard broncos fans but don't give a crap about anything but football. So one side of the family got me rooting for the Broncos, and the other for the wings. I know its kinda weird but that's how it happened.

For the record the Broncos will always be my first true love

I actually have some respect for their players and organization. But nothing for their fan base. Biggest bunch of pompus, holier-than-thou, a-holes.

Typical RW fan attitude,..."Oh you want to talk hockey? First you must bl*w me, and then we can talk"
