This is going to be a fun team to watch. I don't know how good they are, but you can tell they are going to play all three periods and bring it every game. They've been practicing up tempo all training camp. There is a different feel to this team. I'm not even that into hockey and I have been excited about this team since Sakic took over. It actually reminds me exactly of the Broncos when Fox and Elway came to town. I expect a scrappy team that will keep games close and will be dangerous all year regardless of talent level. With realignment in the league, it's like a fresh start and the Avs can reinvent themselves.

What I hope Roy continues to bring to this team is the old confidence and nastiness that we had on both offense and defense.

Welcome home old friend.

would you expect anything less from Roy? dude's gonna run the avs like an AHL team--which, let's be honest, isn't too far from the truth.

roy's from the 'any pub is good pub' school, and he'll posture all season long. he's rex ryan with a French Canadian accent.

Maybe on the blueline but the group of forwards is one of the deeper groups in the league.

The anti-Joe Sacco has arrived. Rejoice Avs fans!

I was at the game and it was the most fun we've had at an Avs game in at least 5 years. MacKinnon looks NHL ready and Varlamov was the man. And oh yeah, Roy - just a great night all around.

It's hard to imagine a #1 overall pick having a better debut than MacKinnon had... my god both of those assists were just sick.

Some Suck clown kneed their #1 overall pick at the end of the game, so I wasn't surprised there was a response to that.

Other than that, man the Sucks looked bad. 6-1?

Fifth-year Avs center Matt Duchene said it was probably the most fun he’s had playing hockey in the past four years and reminded him of Roy’s fights with Detroit goalies Mike Vernon and Chris Osgood.

“I was like a kid, sitting on the bench kind of re-living the Vernon fight and the Osgood fight. It’s kind of similar, pretty cool. I’m giddy right now,” Duchene said. “It’s so fun to win like that and such a difference from the last few years. (Roy) is leading the charge here and we’re ready for it … Maybe it was a little much at the end there, but that’s alright we sent a message.”

Roy is a lot tougher now he doesn't have to fight for himself anymore - but I guess that helping of knuckle sandwich Mike Vernon fed him cooled his jets quite a bit. Maybe the NHL should bring in Mike Vernon to do those between the glass segments for Avs games.

Roy did exactly what he needed to do. He coached his team and he sent the message that the Avs will not be pushovers like during the Sacco era.

thats laughable...he 'cooled his jets' so well that he beat the **** out of your back up goalie about 12 months later

You remember that fight very differently than reality apparently. Roy used Vernon like a damn punching bag. Osgood gave a better fight. Roy was holding Vernon up so he could keep punching him and then slipped and after that Vernon clinched up and waited for the refs to pull them apart.
