There is some young talent on this team that needs leadership, and Joe was that, he just came a little bit of a tall price tag to not be the 100% on the field guy. He wasn't the same after the suspension, and then the whole blame for the NE game fell on his shoulders, which was BS. Joe was a solid MLB and was brought to Denver to be a run stopper not to be the full time starting MLB, and assisted in getting Arrington out the door.

Honestly our D seemed pretty solid before yesterday and now I am going to watch the situation at LB through training camp and preseason. I hope the young guys prove me wrong but Johnson, Trevathan, and Irving don't appear ready to hold the fort down by themselves, and I hope I don't have to watch the limp noodle Brookings play MLB again.

Saving 3.5 Mil in cap space is huge to bring in someone to fill in for Von if he is suspended. And this is all about money in the end.
Hey guys, I found the only person on the planet who didnt know this was coming

Since Trevathan is a nickle Will, I doubt we see him in the MLB slot.

2 down thumpers are an endangered species in the NFL. Especially 2 down thumpers that miss tackles in space.

Joe will catch on somewhere and be a decent special teams player and in goaline shoot the A gap situations. Other than that, he's pretty much useless as teats on a boar.

Ouch! Mays may be too dumb to call the defensive signals but he is a major thumper, hate to see him a Raider.

I'd love it. Hey Joe, don't forget to pick up Wes Welker on that shallow crossing route.

Sure we will make plays on him but he hits like a freight train. Hate to see him get a shot on say Peyton. I'd rather see him do to Detroit.

Mays can be a decent inside LBer in a 3-4, but 4-3 MLB is a bit too much for him. Loved the intensity he brought, but between the money and the position, this was necessary. If we could bring him back as a STer for the vet minimum, I'd do it (just to make Moeaki poop his pants when he lines up against him on a kickoff), but he's going to get a couple mil as an ILB somewhere.

That's the same typical bull crap the Raider fans pull every year. It's always "oh so-and-so wants revenge" or "our new coach is a forward thinker" and they have some lame reason why the Raiders will turn crap into gold just because every season. Then by October they're back to realizing their team sucks.

No, no, Kaylore..... You've got me all wrong. I'm not stupid enough to expect any gold this season. I fully expect the #1 pick next draft. Here's what I was trolling for:

Joe Mays being called a "solid MLB" is akin to calling Aaron Hernandez a criminal mastermind.

Guy took bad angles, missed tackles, frequently lined up in the wrong position, was a complete and utter liability in coverage (nobody expected a stud coverage guy, but the dude was so bad it was funny) and couldn't organise the D at all. Literally the only thing he could do was hit hard, which while aesthetically pleasing isn't all that relevant in winning games.

He'll get a job somewhere because he's a solid ST player, and he could possibly be a passable backup as a SILB in a 3-4 defense.

But it'll be nigh on impossible for Irving (or anyone) to be worse at MLB than this guy was for us.

There... thats what I'm talkin' about... that would be an improvement over Travis (who?) Goethel. Coach Allen would sign him in a minute if Mays could really deliver the kind of play Schism claims he can. Sounds good!

I would be more concerned if the Raiders signed Willie Mays to play MLB.

FYI, people were criticizing Joe Mays long before the release anyone paying attention knew was coming. I have to admit that I loved when Joe Mays made contact with the ball carrier. Problem is, he missed almost as much as he hit.

Joe Mays - LB - Free Agent

Free agent Joe Mays will visit the Redskins.
Mays was cut by the Broncos on Tuesday. With Keenan Robinson tearing his pectoral, a spot at inside linebacker has opened up in Washington. Mays can be depth on early downs and help on special teams.
