Maybe, because both RB's would have been fresh instead of pounding the rookie into the ground at the end of the game.

On topic: $57.5M is a little rich (but only $33M guaranteed, so that's good). Glad the deal's done. Now suspend the drunk twins for the rest of the season and it's on to training camp.

Has to earn All-Pro 2 of the next 5 years for the deal to go from $52.5M to $57.5M, keeps the big cap hits from hitting until 2015.

Lot's of contracts set-up for a run in the next two years. Manning might be planning to retire after that.

Two fun facts for you:

1. Clady currently has 3 ALL PROs in his 5 seasons

2. You're an idiot.

I like the incentives as it means Clady will have to play a lot to reach them and I totally hope he puts on a friggen clinic at LT for the next 5 years.

Yes it's a great contract where both sides are happy and the player is highly motivated for the life of the contract due to sweet incentives that can be reached likely for the life of the contract. Due to the bump to 57.5 Mil with two all pro selections the tendency to coast now that you got paid syndrome prevalent in the NFL has been cleverly dealt with.

This might be a prototype contract for long term NFL contracts with large amounts of guaranteed money going forward.

At first I was skeptical of the deal based on the details of the figures from last year and where both sides were this year. But I believe this deal can be great for both sides, in particularly for our front office. Apparently we are only on the hook for the guarantee portion of the deal if he gets hurt. We can release him at any point between this year and 2015 without being on the hook for any of that guaranteed money as long as its not injury related.

If they find a replacement or he's not performing well, see yah! This deal is going to have Clady very hungry to perform well over the life of the contract, especially if he wants to see every penny!

"The complete details are in on Ryan Clady's contract, and keeping with recent history, the Broncos have done quite well to protect themselves financially.

As Jason Fitzgerald had predicted, the deal has only $15M in full guarantees - less than half of the $33M that's reported as being guaranteed.

Wisely, Denver has again given a relatively tiny signing bonus - only $3M - while handing Clady most of the real guarantees in the form of a $10.5M roster bonus payable tomorrow. What makes this such a smart move is that the $10.5M is a 2013 cap hit, and is not prorated beyond this year; only the signing bonus is prorated, at a mere $600K per season.

The balance of the fully guaranteed portion comes in the form of his $1.5M salary for 2013.

Clady's $8M salary for 2014, $8.5M salary and $1.5M roster bonus for 2015, are due on the fifth day of those league years. Until those dates, they are guaranteed only for injury.

All of this is to say that, as Fitzgerald has long maintained, the Broncos are among the best at structuring contracts and managing the cap. For this, John Elway & Co. deserve hearty applause"

I realize that this is Bleacher Report but it indicates that Clady has a decent shot at earning the bonus bucks.

Offensive Tackles

First Team: Ryan Clady, Denver Broncos; Duane Brown, Houston Texans

If I could start an NFL franchise with any left tackle currently in the league, Duane Brown and Ryan Clady would be my first two picks.

When looking at elite pass-protectors and run-blockers that produce big plays, Brown and Clady are some of the best in the game. Each is among the best at what they're asked to do—Clady as a blindside protector and Brown as an elite mover in the zone-blocking scheme. With each player on a team that's expected to produce a ton of yards and points in the 2013 season, they will be even more visible and more praised following the season.

Second Team: Joe Thomas, Cleveland Browns; Joe Staley, San Francisco 49ers

You could make an argument that Joe Thomas is the best all-around offensive tackle in the NFL—I wouldn't fight you on that. So why isn't Thomas a first-team tackle? The offense he plays in is an enormous question mark heading into the season, and if the team struggles, Thomas is unlikely to get a first-team mention.

Joe Staley found his groove after Week 1 last season and simply dominated from there on. He's emerged as one of the game's best power tackles, showing the quickness and strength needed to play well in both the run and passing games. And with the 49ers picked by many to make a Super Bowl appearance, his play will get a boost from the success of his team.

I was just making sure they new it wasn't pro bowls but being all-pro. He is no shoe in for being all-pro 2 out of the next 5 years. That is not easy to do and if he is all pro then he is well worth the contract because unlike a lot of pro bowls that are due to reputation, being all-pro is earned.

and yes, I am an idiot but that is irrelevant.

All Pro is more prestigious, but I'm not so sure that's the reality. The much maligned fan vote portion for the Pro-Bowl only counts for 1/3 of the vote and the sportswriters get it wrong pretty often.

Frankly, what I'd like to see is an Honors Award voted only by the Head Coaches where their own division is excluded.

THAT would be good.

Clady's contract:

Code:
Year Base S. Bonus Misc. Cap Hit Dead
2013 $1.5M $600K $10.5M $12.6M $15.0M
2014 $8.0M $600K - $8.6M $10.4M
2015 $8.5M $600K $1.5M $10.6M $11.8M
2016 $9.5M $600K - $10.1M $1.2M
2017 $10M $600K - $10.6M $600K
Doesn't include the All Pro guarantees, which would go:

2013 -
2014 $500k
2015: $1.5M
2016: $1.5M
2017: $1.5M

That is a very solidly written contract. I do love that they never do those wildly inflating deals that some teams have had a habit of doing which end up with huge dead money at some point.
