What is that like 30 NFL players arrested out of 3,000 players that are in the NFL? Makes it roughly 1 percent of the league. There's always going to be a percentage that doesn't listen and do whatever they want.

Seems to be a lot of gray area about whether Pats can get signing bonus back and cap relief. From NFL Constitution:
"Whenever the Commissioner, after notice and hearing, decides that an owner, shareholder, partner or holder of an interest in a member club, or any player, coach, officer, director, or employee thereof, or an officer, employee or official of the League has either violated the Constitution and Bylaws of the League or has been or is guilty of conduct detrimental to the welfare of the League or professional football, then the Commissioner shall have complete authority to:

B) Cancel any contract or agreement of such person with the League or with any member thereof"

"Goodell has the power to erase the cap charges"

Why? Because they are the Patriots
Has there been any examples prior to this happening?

Not counting camp fodder, the average NFL salary in 2011 was 1.9 million.

If the NFL didn't let us erase D Will's contract after he was killed there is no way they should let the Pats eat a Killer (or Killers assistant) contract.

The behavior of Elvis Dumervil and his agent was pretty detrimental to the welfare of the league IMO. Imagine what would happen to the league as a whole if more of those jokers played those kind of games every time a bonus was coming due.

Where's our cap relief?

Yeah, but they are on the east coast, so that changes the whole moral calculus.

NESN has a source that says the Pats planned last week that if an arrest was made, he would be cut immediately.

Just fans being fans. In this case the Patriots cut the player and have to accept the salary cap consequences, had they kept him they could have gotten salary cap relief if he misses any games due to being arrested or locked up since that does qualify as contract violation.

Not including free agents and PS players, an NFL team has 53 players.

53x32 = 1,696.
1696/30 is about 1.79 percent.

However, this is just in one year. Lets say the average NFL career is 10 years... 10x1.79=17.9

We can extrapolate that at the current rate 18 percent of NFL players will get arrested. Or at least people getting arrested twice will make up for those who don't at a rate of 18 percent.

I don't want to do the math right now, but it is a little higher than what one could expect for the average American male during ages 22-32.

It is, however, lower than the national average for the African American male population at large.

"The actions of the Patriots benefitted the NFL. By making Hernandez a former NFL player, The Pats have given the league the opportunity to shield its image during what is bound to be a huge media circus of a trial.

If Goodell chooses NOT to grant cap relief to the Pats, imo it sends exactly the wrong message to fans who are fed up with the criminal behavior of so many pro athletes.

Furthermore, it would pretty much guarantee that any team faced with similar circumstances in the future (and that WILL happen) will be very unlikely to take the action that the Pats did in the Hernandez case"

The league owes it to the Patriots for being so classy and what not

Goodell has 32 bosses. Hard to imagine he'd imperil his gig by pissing off the other 31.

Re CAp Hit:

BFS. If Elvis and the Broncos can't have a contract that was agreed upon but not faxed in time, then the Pats don't get no relief.

During the offseason an NFL club has 90 players on its roster, which negates your math and extrapolating.

I wonder if it will be obstruction, accessory after the fact, or full-blown murder charges. Guess we'll find out shortly (though they could always add or amend charges later.)

I'm guessing they're charging him with murder (and the other 2 guys involved).

Charge them all......then wait until someone sings.
