If one of our 3 starting guards could move to center it would give us the chance to start our best 5 linemen. It makes sense for it to be Kuper since he is our most seasoned lineman, I would feel comfortable with him making the calls. He has also been voted a captain a few times, a rareity for a guard, so he has the leadership we want. He has been the backup long snapper, so we know he has practiced snapping. When healthy he is our 2nd best lineman, the only question is his ankle. Even Nalen endorsed the switch, I hope he is healthy and willing.

Didn't see anybody mention the update that this setback was due to an infection in his ankle.

Quote:
The team confirmed Walton had surgery Monday to replace the hardware in his ankle after doctors discovered an infection.

The surgery means Walton will spend training camp on the Broncos' physically unable to perform list, and won't be able to practice until at least mid-October. Barring another setback, Walton could be cleared to play by November.

What does the team have against Koppen? Seems like that would solve all problems

Koppen ain't going anywhere and he has already experience with the playbook and with Manning.

Let them use the early camps to distribute reps to trying things out and if that proves inadequate, Koppen will be waiting by the phone.

^ let's not forget when Walton was new, Kuper was the one helping with the line calls.

This is fine, guys. You hate to lose any depth but this is possibly even serendipity. Two years in a row, haha.

Perhaps I shouldnt think this way, but after the Ravens shuffled their line prior to the playoffs, losing a center in June hardly seems like a big deal.

He has been on the depth chart for years as the 2nd string short snapper. He played some in college and has lined up in various camps when he was new to the team.

I think Walton will be on IR for the entire year. He may start on PUP but I believe he will end up on IR. They're replacing all the hardware, which is essentially starting all over again. You have to have that same time period for the bone to grow and attach to the screws and plate. I seriously doubt you will see Walton this year. And since it's a contract year, I betcha the Broncos don't want to mess around with trying to get him back this year and risk a set back, because they'll want him healthy come Minicamp next year and cut him, just like they did WM. Looks like we'll be drafting a center next year. Who are some the early top prospects so we can watch them this year in college? The Koppen singing makes good sense. Still would love to see Kuper there giving him some competition. If Kupes becomes fully healthy, watch out.

Clady, Beadles, Kuper, Vasquez, Franklin

I could live with that, big time.

Koppen seems to be the safe bet for a run this year. Veteran with a couple of rings, knows Manning, knows the line calls. Is he going to get rag-dolled by upper tier DT's? Probably. But in the end, he'll be adequate. Better than bringing in an unknown starting element on a SB contender.

No Chris picked his up when he was having surgery for his broken forearm. He developed a systemic infection whose side effects were the inability for broken bones to "knit" back together. Walton's is localized I believe. The result was that they had to operate on his arm and ankle. His ankle is about 90% and forearm about 80%. He should be ready to go when camp starts.

You mean Kupe will be ready, Not Walton. Is that right?

BTW, good to see ya on the Mane!!! Would love to see Kupe at 100% again. Kupe and Vasquez on the same O-line...? That would be great!

My only concern with Koppen was that he seemed to were down a little as the season continued. Love him for depth, but I get concerned if he has to take too many snaps. Hopefully we can get J.D. back around the bye week while the vet still has something left in the tank.

He hasn't been indicted, but he hasn't been ruled out as a suspect.
