That which must be done eventually must be done immediately. We all knew this was going to happen, no room on the roster for a 31 year old RB making $2.5M who doesn't play ST and last year fumbled at the rate of every other game.

IMO, the reason they waited this long was to avoid an injury settlement. MgGahee ended last season on IR. Broncos had to know he was fully healthy to ensure no injury settlement. They finally got him in to work yesterday, he checked out medically enough to practice, and can now wish him well.

Had McGahee participated in the voluntary workouts, he would have been cut then.

Montee Ball - RB - Broncos

Rookie Montee Ball is locked in as the Broncos' feature back following the release of Willis McGahee.
Ronnie Hillman is a change-of-pace option and there's no guarantee Knowshon Moreno (knee surgery) will even make the final roster. The Broncos used a second-round pick on Ball for a reason; they're going to ride him as a feature back. A downhill runner with a one-cut style that fits the scheme, Ball is a surefire RB2 and has RB1 upside in the Broncos' high-powered offense. McGahee and Moreno combined for 305 carries, 1,256 yards and eight touchdowns last season.

sounds about right

Might happen in week 1 or week 10 we don't know at this point and it is Moreno not Willis that has been chosen to the the transition player for Ball.
Maybe we should say M. Ball. I first thought of Lance and I nearly had a heart attack.

I don't even get the original argument. Shaun Phillips will adequately fill a pass rushing role, but if you had the chance to get Aldon Smith, would you pass on that?

Too bad for Willis, this is a legit SB team and with the Broncos drafting Montee, they just don't need him, especially with his injuries. He's a classy guy and this allows him to be picked up by another team should he choose to continue his career. Also, who knows? If the Broncos sustain some injuries to the RB position during the season and McGahee is still available, he may end up back with the Broncos.

I see our RB corps as thin now, and I'm nowhere near ready to hand it all over to Montee Ball. McGahee was injury-prone anyway so I was hoping for another veteran there. I felt that Stokley was adequate at slot and that the $6 million could be better spent on beefing up the backfield and whatever else. It's not a shot at Welker at all. It's just that we have several needs.

I hope I'm wrong. Rub my face in it, PLEASE.

Montee Ball must be rockin' the OTA's. Good luck Willis. He filled a real need for us with all the uncertainty at RB. I really liked this guy.

As inevitable as an old RB fumbling.

Ball gets the bulk, Hillman change of pace and Slowshon is 3rd down blocker and checkdown option. Willis fumbles too much and that is the only thing that could derail this offense.

Welker has an ability to open up the passing game more than stoke ever could. You'll see it.
