Default Football Outsiders CB metrics

I don't think football and its players can be as accurately measured by metrics/sabermetrics as in a game like baseball. Without knowing what each player's job is on each play it's difficult to accurately grade their play. But it's the offseason so here's an article from FO which grades Bailey, Harris, and Carter favorably.

From the link:

So the Broncos employ Champ Bailey, and Tony Carter, and Chris Harris. Yet they still found space to bring in Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie after his dismal year. How does he fit in with them? Is he just the next Tracy Porter?

We've never made much of a deal about the best cornerbacks in preventing yards after the catch. These numbers are not here to tell us deep and meaningful things, but to add some color to the results. Ike Taylor, Joselio Hanson, and Champ Bailey have all been in the top 10 for YAC allowed in two of the last three seasons.

I thought Denver was stacked at the position before this article came out. I also think Harris is or is on the cusp of becoming one of the best CBs in the league.

A half decage ago these metrics called Karl Paymah the best CB in the league.

Still, always nice to see positive things about the Broncos, and always needed during the off-season.

Darrent Williams, Dominique Foxworth, Karl Paymah. . . Maurice Clarett. Yeah, that was a draft to forget.

yeah, like I said I don't think they are really that great in accurate player evaluation. But it's the slowest part of the offseason. And honestly, I think Denver is loaded at CB this year.

The guy I'm looking forward to watching develop is a kid by the name of Lenny Walls. Most people haven't heard of him, but my sources tell me he's going to be a good one. He's like, almost seven feet tall. He's going to be like Manute Bol in the key. They're just going to keep him between the hash marks, about thirty yards off the LOS, and have him swat everything that comes his way!

Well I have it from the highest sources that the dark horse of OTAs is a man who goes by the name of Kelly Herndon. Don't know much about him but be on the lookout!

I just hope we keep Brandon Browner. I think he will be good.

Harris and Tony Carter played very good last year and would be starters on a bunch of other teams. I think the aged vets we picked up were for depth and at least one of them may be moved to safety.
