In one word, "Leadership"

Elway gets it. Last year....he waiting until late and signed 2-3 vets like Brooking. What do those guys bring? They bring leadership...and confidence to your team. Brooking, Leonard, Stokely, etc. really helped us last year.

Elway is getting ready to sign those 2-3 guys to add to the mix to help lead this team!

Have faith! Go Woodson!

My guess is that we'll sign him by the end of this week.

I don't claim to know where or how he'll fit into the scheme of things, I certainly wouldn't want to give up on Moore or Q Carter yet. I do think we got great value out of Lynch and Dawkins and I also think that our D is completely lacking in leadership. Champ is great, but he's more of a lead by example kinda guy. Both Dawkins and Lynch stepped up in that role and I think Woodson could as well.
If Denver does not sign him he will sign with the Raiders. He said on the NFL Network that he is going to play this year, he wants to play for a contender but if that doesn't pan out he'll play anywhere and try to be a great role model.

just that would make it a great day. if he was making 900K-1.3 mil he'd be fine. but his contract is garbage!

I was thinking about this acquisition and I just do not see room for him. He could come in and battle for a saftey spot and battle Quinten Carter for a saftey spot. It is hard for me to see how he makes the team. You can't cut, Adams, Carter, Bruton or Moore.

At CB there is NO room at all unless they want to cut Bolden.

Denver I feel is fine in the secondary. Maybe Q. Carter will not recover from his injury. If he does recover maybe they feel that they can cut Adams but I just think Denver should stand pat. Bring him in for a look, I feel if they sign him he just might get cut in trainng camp if all the other players play up to their potential.

you can't find room? he'd play S, either moving Rahim to SS(which isn't likely to happen) or beat out Adams. Carter is coming off of microfracture surgery, he will likely not be back to 100% til after this season or if he's likely later in the season.

since Woodson to a 1 year deal, let him start this year and if Carter is healthy and ready you let him take back his job at SS next year.

Carter is listed as the starter on the depth chart. I did say that if Carter wasn't back from his injury that would be an opening for Woodson. Woodson is a part time player and I would have a hard time cutting Adams for a part time player.

He only played safety one year in his entire career and that was last year and he was injured and kinda sucked.

If he's cheap enough you give him a shot and cut any 2nd/3rd tier scrubs.

He's an upgrade over Adams....and his leadership...is what we need on Defense.

We play so much nickle and dime formations that he could actually be pretty valuable. What if Adams or Moore goes down? Carter is far from a sure thing and Woodson is a very competent vet. Look at how much Leonard was on the field last year. Not to mention his leadership and assistance to the young DB's would be outstanding.

As long as the deal isn't pricey it would be solid.

I think this is the best way to look at this. We lost Leonard and Woodson would replace his spot and bring some better cover skills. I'm not so sure Woodson signing would mean the Broncos subsequently cut any of the other safeties already on the roster.

The thing I'm more curious about is Tony Carter with the draft pick of Kayvon Webster.

Webster and Quinten Carter are replacing Leonhard.

Good point on Carter as he was on IR last year. Maybe Adams would be on the chopping block.

Is there some definitive information somewhere that points to Webster being a Safety? I haven't seen anything.

Why would a guy who was just given a $1.25 million dollar roster bonus be on the chopping block?

Good point as well. Maybe they are concerned about Q Carter returning from his injury?

It is interesting to try and understand how they see Charles Woodson fitting into the picture. Maybe they carry more Safety/CB this year.

If the Broncos do sign Woodson, the expectation is he would compete with Mike Adams and Quinton Carter at strong safety.

He's only due another $750k as a Bronco. Keep him as the 3rd Safety, like he has played for 80% of his career.

I wonder if they are concerned Carter is not going to fully recover from microfracture surgery?

Quinton Carter isn't a starting caliber Strong Safety on a SB contender. The Broncos need a real Defensive leader/playmaker at the Safety position. That's what Woodson would bring.

Any contract the Broncos would sign Woodson to, would probably become revenue nuetral by letting Mike Adams and Knowshon Moreno walk in 2014. Hopefully they can get him for $2M-$3M per year on a 2 year deal.
