Default The next NFL Superstar (Vol. 1)

This is the first post in a series of posts that will analyze elite NFL Prospects in the 2014 NFL draft.
Next week's installment will be South Carolina DE Jadeveon Clowney.

Ka'deem Carey
RB - Arizona
Height: 5'10
Weight: 203 pounds
NFL Player comparison: Priest Holmes

Highlight video (Courtesy of ZONA):

WEAKNESSES

Runs a 4.55-4.60 Does not possess break away speed. Is frequently caught from behind on runs above 40 yards.

Big character concerns (story below)
http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/ncaaf-...81--ncaaf.html

STRENGTHS

Superior leg drive and power
Some of the best lower body drive you will ever see in a running back, regardless of weight. A 240 pound back stuck in a 203 pounder's body. Fights for yardage on every play as if it is a goal-line situation

Not a risk for concussions
Despite his power, Carey avoids leading with his helmet. He will avoid frequent concussions and will not be penalized under the NFL's new rules.

Superior burst off the line of scrimmage.
Hits the line of scrimmage instantly, does not dance. Decisive.

Cutback ability
Can stop on a dime, cutback and reach top speed instantly.

North/South Runner
Regardless, a skilled slasher who knows when to cut across field

Elite patience and vision.
Sees holes before they are created and hits them with force.

Elite production as a sophomore
1,900 yards, 23 TD. Consistently produced against superior programs. Got stronger as the year went on, averaged 228 yards rushing in the final 4 games of 2012.

Carey's character concerns are minor. the situation with the ex was blown out of proportion. it wasn't what the ex claimed it to be.

i could see him going low first to early 2nd if he can pick up that 40 time to 4.48 or so, heck even 4.50. which i don't think will be a problem with Rich Rodriguez being his coach.

How would he do that? He is looking at 2014 draft prospects, they won't be Broncos players until after that draft a year out... and how do we know what our needs will be.

So, he compares to Priest Holmes.

Does that mean we also get Roaf and Shields with that pick?

No Shields, and just the economy-size version of Willie.

Cuz half a Roaf is better than none.

Agreed. Bacchus needs to pay attention before he posts, lol.

I don't agree that he will be a 1st round pick. If he had better speed he would for sure be a 1st round pick. Not that he's slow, because he's not. But there are some plays where another 10 yards he would have been in the endzone and did get caught from behind. But his cuts are impressive. He cuts as close to full speed as you can. He really doesn't juke to much, he'll run right at you and then make the cut. He's a pretty clever runner. And I do agree for a back his size, his leg drive is incredible. IMO, he's a can't miss 3rd round pick right now but easily could go 2nd round with the same type of year he had last season, even if he doesn't bump up that 40 time. He'll be 1 of the top 5 backs next year. Also love his ball security, even when getting caught from behind, his reflexes are pretty damn quick and secures that thing fast. If Hillman doesn't improve quite a bit this year, I could see us looking at this kid. But for the value I would say 3rd round. I just don't think he's going in the 1st and doesn't quite have the speed to be a great value in the 2nd.

If the only knock on a guy is he may get caught from behind on long runs he really doesn't have any knocks. The long run is not what the running game for any decent team is about. Decent teams generally get their big plays from the passing game. They need consistent gains in the running game to help move the chains and control the clock.

That picture with the defender on the ground holding his shoe is awesome.

Yup, I've repeated that in several topics the last several weeks. The absolute last think you need to be concerned about in a RB is getting caught from behind on runs of 40, 60, 80 yards et. There's not many guys in the league that are big time tough runners who have great YPC average that could have been track stars. Granted, you don't want somebody plodding and slow, but quickness, burst, vision, smart, tough are all more important in a RB then top end speed.

I doubt that he gets that many carries, Rich-Rod has a couple of impressive young backs that are in the wings that will gets carries.

Not super impressed with this guy. I think he'd have been the 7th or 8th running back in this class.
