Either they have to keep 6 CBs, or else find an excuse to stash someone on IR for a year (perhaps Webster himself). Sly and Ball will help right away. No pressure for Smith to play right away with the Phillips signing, they can stash him on IR if need be. King could help on ST right away and be the 4th WR, maybe move up if we lose Decker to FA or post-Welker. I'm fine with no MLB, they obviously are comfortable with Irving. Just wish we would have taken avantage of this deep safety class. Adams is expendable. Would have preferred Shamarko Thomas in the 3rd over Webster.
I pretty much agree with your thoughts. I do think Webster is capable of being played at Strong Safety though. He's very physical and he's around the size of Mike Adams. So, another option may be using him as a safety.

Yeah, I'll like the pick better if the plan is to move him to safety. He's got a nice skill set for sure.

Man, so much for my 7th round sleepers, only one out of four got drafted. Here's to hoping we sign Eric Martin, Roger Gaines, and Cody Davis in UDFA!

18 in total, 64 players on the roster prior to the draft, Phillips added and 7 draft picks make 72. You can sign up to 90 players.

Who was the OLB you really liked? I remember you talking about someone to backup Von? Did he get drafted? I'm too lazy to search.

Underwhelmed. Feel like this is the second year in a row where we outsmarted ourselves and better players were picked around us.

Great draft. 2 immediate starters, all other picks are guys who have the ability to start someday (maybe).

Elway/Russell are GREAT at filling in positions of need, with productive, high-quality late-round picks.

I don't think Sly is starting this year. I think Vick might still be there, but he's going to be in heavy rotation. But we did just build on talent since we already have our starting lineup set.

Remember that big Vick only played 40% of the snaps last season. They rotate heavily, so even if Sly doesn't start he'll get plenty of PT.

Eric Martin. Only really played one year, but has ridiculous athleticism and was very productive that one year. Size isn't ideal either. Really would like him to backup Von and maybe chip in as a pass rusher on 3rd downs at DE. They kind of took Q. Smith for the same role, similar players, so probably won't get Martin in UDFA.

Ah okay, thanks. Well you never know. Especially since smith is coming off that injury.

Seriously? Sylvester Williams (the best penetrating DT in the draft) at #28 and Quanterus Smith (a 1st round talent) at #146 alone refute such a notion. Montee Ball at #58 is a good pick as well. Honestly outside of Kayvon Webster, who is a bit shocking where he was picked I agree, they got great value with all of their picks.

Well it's better than the head scratchers than Shanny and McD pulled on us.

I would tend to agree. I think Sly starts out only playing on obvious passing downs, and works his way into the starting lineup as the season progresses. Montee Ball on the other hand I give a 70-80% chance to start from day one.

Agreed, with maybe the exception being the 3rd rounder. Then again, these guys get paid to make these assessments, so maybe Tayvon Webster is a steal, how the hell would I know?

Zac Dysert in the 7th is my personal favorite, although the Smith pick is ridiculously undervalued.

I bet Webster is tried out at safety or in our big nickel package replacing effectively Leonard there. I expect us to carry 11 DBs on the roster into next year.

You could be right. That would be a way to get him on the field much sooner, and maybe what they had in mind when they took him in the third.
