It also seems like there was an early run on defensive backs. If you want one, you have to take him early this year.

At least it sounds better to explain it that way...

Yes..........because we can all project how other teams had him projected as well.....

Cb is a need in the very near future so I like the pick.

Webster made 190 tackles during his four-year career at USF with 8.5 TFL & 3 INT

Webster had a good season for a bad USF team last year. 4.41 40 at the Combine. (1.49 seconds for the 10-yd split). 35-inch vertical.

I'm not going to pretend like I'm better at evaluating talent then Elway, Fox, Del Rio, and Matt Russel. This does seem early but I have trusted our front office ability to draft the last couple years and I have no reason to think he isn't going to be a good player

I had the Broncos taking a different CB in the 3rd round, Webb, who is still available and projected to go in the 3-4th range. This guy was projected 5th at the highest, so we'll see if the Broncos know more than most. I think his fast 40 time with good size for a CB got him drafted higher than expected.

Never heard of him, but I don't think this is a particularly bad pick. NFL Draft Scout (which I've found to be one of the more accurate predictors of a players value) lists him as a high 4th round pick, and if it was a guy that evidently clicked with JDR, than 28th in the third seems plausible.

Also, NFL Draft Scout is the guide that a lot of analysts use - as evidenced by their client list which includes John Gruden and Chris Berman.

They also list Webster as a "high character guy" and under position he's listed as a FS/KR.

Broncos too comfortable this year? A simple move here or there and we could have landed Moore.

We do need CBs. Champ has maybe a year or two left. DRC is on a tryout contract for the year. Harris is a nickel CB and very good I might add, but not the future top tier guy we need. Tony Carter, perhaps a future #2. Bolden, yet to be determined. CB is definitely a need, but I don't know squat about this guy. At least he runs well.

Obviously Elway knows something we don't know concerning this pick.

Whoops, never mind... his "high" projection was high third... his actual projection was 6-7. Damn.

I guess I'll just take a wait and see approach.

It'll be interesting to see how this pick pans out. As a late third rounder he really only needs to be a solid nickle guy to be worth it.

Per the Orange Mane mock draft:

7-18 (224): Miami (phibacka31/SouthStndJunkie)- Kayvon Webster, CB, South Florida

18th pick in the 7th round, Guess we will see who knows more, Elway and Co or Us draft guru's lol

Great value for Phibacka31 and SSJ

This is what I am getting as well. It is too easy to look at Mike Mayocks board and say this is horrible, we should have drafted Moore he was a 1st round guy.

Get your logic out of here.
