Default Team draft rankings 2000-2007

Broncos rank 19th. A little surprised to see the Chargers at #1. Not surprised to see Indy, NE, GB, Pit, and Bal so high.

Well it is giving San Diego credit for Eli, Brees, and Michael Turner - all premier players who had all/most of their career success with other teams. Eli never played for SD and only 1 pro bowl out of 7 for Brees was with SD

But wow was our drafting horrendous

Because of the way the cap ballooned during this period specifically, all the free agents worth signing, with a very few exceptions, were able to be re-signed by their original teams. This means to have any shot at a good player, you had to draft them. This was something Mike Shanahan was terrible at.

Those were the AJ Smith Golden years.

When they do the 2008-2012 rankings, the Chargers will be near the bottom. The only marquee player so far from those years has been Butler.

SD did draft some good talent. They just didn't know what to do with them.

I'm pretty confident that had they kept Marty they would have won at least 1 SB.

Just my opinion. I think they would have been better off with Marty.

We'll never know.

I was a big Marty fan but based on his body of work of over 20 years, odds are he wouldn't have fared any better than Norval.

yep, just drafting well does not insure success, but if you look at the teams who did draft well, who are towards the top, many of them if not all have won a SB.

Dallas always seems to have talent but they just can't put it all together. I think this is a direct reflection on Jerry Jones. That is, I think the players know the coaches are hamstrung by Jerra and that they ultimately play for the owner who has final say on all things. JMHO of course.
