Most useful tool I have in my kitchen. It's great for making marinades. I suppose using a vitamix to enhance the eating of red meat kind of goes against the grain of how they sell it, but what can I say... I love me some steak.

Just picked a Vitamix up at Costco. $375 for the 5200s. So far I love it.

My daughter likes to eat ice cream so I throw in some frozen bananas and a scoop of peanut butter and it comes out with the consistency of ice cream. She loves it and doesn't even know the difference.

Same here. Just bought one, and we'll see what kind of creations this machine can make.

We love our vitamix too. Anyone have any good soup and/or ice cream recipes?

We got the BlendTec, but the recipes are pretty much the same for either blender. Do a Google search, we found a ton of different soup recipes. My fav. is cream of asparagus. It's so easy, and tastes good. Cook some asparagus (3/4 lb for a single serving), add 1/2 to 3/4 cup chicken or vegetable stock (I use low or no sodium types) 1/4 cup heavy cream (I often just use lowfat milk tho), pepper and the asparagus.

Ice cream, boy... the possibilities are endless! Frozen fruit (any type), 1/2 cup powdered milk, 1/2 cup milk, 1/4 - 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract, 3 cups ice. If you like it sweeter, use some agave. We occasionally add some hemp hearts too, or a handful of spinach leaves (the color stays pretty white tho).

I've thrown some Andes mints in for mint chocolate chip ice cream, and used chocolate milk, or strawberry milk and add fresh strawberries.

I recently bought a chocolate coconut water (little box of it like a juice box) that I'm gonna try soon, instead of chocolate milk.

I suck at mixing things. I have the Strawberry/Pineapple smoothie down, but if I start mixing vegetables, it tastes like ****.

What's so great about a Vitamix? Looks like a regular blender. I bought this juicer from Costco about a year ago:

http://t.costco.com/Jack-LaLanne%27s....11590808.html

It's not bad but kinda a pain in the ass to clean up. Not to mention the juice not tasting all that great.

The Vitamix has 3 billion RPMs per second. It's like having a warp drive on your counter. It'll do the Kessel run in 12 parsecs.

It runs so fast and hot it makes soup...... A potential design flaw tured into a marketing masterpiece!

Ended up with this Breville Multi-Speed Juice Fountain. The reviews for this product were almost always 5 stars...and I have already used it twice, it works great....the juices I made? Not so great...working on that.

If you use veggies and fruit, the only fruit you should really mix with it are apples and pears (general rule). Hard fruit I think was what I read somewhere. Like an orange and a tomato would be, well... awful!

2 oranges and 1 carrot is good

2 apples and 1 medium red beet and 1 whole lime

Kale is bitter, so don't use a ton, and if the stalk is real long without leaves on it, cut that part off, but it is super healthy for ya!

My typical breakfast drink is.
1 tomato, 3/4 stalks celery, 1/2 a cucumber, 1/2 a bell pepper, carrot, 1 lime or 1 lemon, apple, kale leaves, spinach (whole bundle if you buy it fresh). If you like, add a little onion or a small slice (1/4 inch or less) of ginger root or horseradish root. I call it my mock V8 juice, but the color is nothing like V8 juice. it is so fake, it's unreal!

Barnes and Noble had some good juice books too, got a couple we used earlier, then adapt the recipe to your own taste on what you like.

I like using whole key limes, a little more bitter taste, but in a good way!

Oh yeah, tip on keeping kale fresh longer. After it sits in the fridge a couple days, it gets limp. Cut a little of the ends off and put it in a vase/bowl of room temp. water. (similar to flowers) Leave it set an hour or so, it'll freshen up and can go back in the fridge and not get dried out as fast, if you don't use it quick enough.

Hades, I have only done these two recipes:

Apple - 1 medium
Carrots - 8 medium
Ginger - 1 thumb
Lemon - 1 fruit

and

Apple (red delicious)
Grapefruit - 1 medium
Peaches - 2 medium

The Breville juicer came with some recipes, and they look pretty good. I'll keep making different things and find what I like and don't like.

24Champ, the best way is trial and error!

I found out the hard way, too much ginger in the morning made me wanna throw up. I love ginger, but I put too much in on 2 different batches, and both times really felt like I was going to hurl.

I take blood pressure medicine, so no grapefruit for me, but I loved it when I did eat it before!

Here's an old link or two I found some tips on too.

PV= Puerto Vallarta? I thought that place was dangerous. We were thinking The otherside, Cancun or Cozumel.

My wife likes the beach, I think I would like Copper Canyon if it was safe. We also have a 12 year-old girl.

You will probably be fine but Puerto Vallarta and Cabo are the safest. Cabo being the best choice because it is not main land Mexico.

Ok, now my daughter wants to learn Spanish and we want to send her to a Spanish country for a summer when she is in High School.... Do we just have to rule out Mexico and go with Spain?

I would keep my family close to home given the times we live in. Sorry to say.
