This is all about Kruger setting the market at 8mil/yr.

If released Doom and his agent know that is the market and what he'd likely get. If the counteroffer was in the 9mil range I bet Denver gets it done. If in the 10mil+ range likely to see a counter offer from Den. This could play out over several days.

Right, this is far from agreed upon. Good signs, but the Broncos haven't as far as we know gotten back on it:

Do hope the Kruger signing lowered the bar to something they can agree on. For now, though, it could just be the agent putting it out in the media that Dumervil is being flexible to put more pressure on Dove Valley.

Dumervil would be smart to try to stay since he isn't someone who could fit any scheme and any team out there, so his options are not that huge IMO. Sure, he could get more money from a crap team, but would that make him happier?

This is why his camp wanted him released by 2 so they could set the bar. The FO didn't blink and refused to. Now we will see how it plays out.

Elvis takes a pay cut, and Peymeaton is the 2nd highest paid QB in the League for the next two years.

There's a reason Big Al isn't working in an NFL front office.

I also will hold off on the celebration/party until both sides agree on a price.

The key calculation, in my mind, is this. Price of Dumervil this year against the cap under some new proposed deal is x. The dead money on Dumervil's deal is $4.869M. Say the cheapest we can get a relatively-comparable replacement (Dwight Freeney) is y.

As long as Dumervil will agree to a deal worth x where x < y + $4.869M, then it makes more sense, in terms of competitiveness this season, to keep him. Let's put some ballpark numbers in here. I've seen the estimate on Freeney range between $4M and $5M. Let's split the difference and say y = $4.5M. As long as Dumervil is willing to agree to a deal in the neighborhood of $9M against the cap this year, we would be well-served to keep him.

Now if the problem we have with Dumervil's deal is purely cash outlay, then that's different. The $4.8M in dead money on Dumervil's deal counts against the cap if he's cut, but it' no more money out of Pat's pocket. If it's a cashflow issue, Freeney at 4.5M is only half as bad as Dumervil at 9M, so cutting him may still make some sense.

Yeesh, dude, $40 million guaranteed for Peyton for the next two years. I don't think Rodgers will get a 2 year contract for that kind of cash.

Yeah, but what would the cash guarantee be? Not $40 million cash guaranteed for a two year contract, which is what Peyton has right now.

Also in a 4-3 defense with Miller on other side I bet Freeny would get 10 sacks and force some turnovers. Last yr he had to play 3-4 which he isn't as good at. Put his hand in the ground, let him line up wide, and he gets sacks trust me. He's a great player but keeping Doom is still better because he has the chemsitry with team and in the lockeroom. Still the board goes way to crazy over every rumor.

It's gonna be a record breaking contract and I'm sure hell get guarantees. New TV deals may increase the cap

his new deal is going to make Flacco's look like chump change.

This is very encouraging news. While DJ was one of my all time favorites, I can see he was expendable in making this happen. Dumervil is far more important at this point, and while DJ's cap wasn't huge (I don't think), it was significant enough to allow the Broncos to be more generous, I'm guessing, in their negotations with Dumervil. If 1-2 million was a sticking point, DJ gave more than enough room for that.

Still gonna miss ol' Williams though. Despite the hate he gets here, he is a badass linebacker and I imagine he'll do great on some other team.
