OM Mock Draft: first person to take a safety is an idiot - The Orange Mane

Just finished up my initial big board (772 players deep this year), and I'm STUNNED by the depth of the safety class this year. By my count, there are seven players that would go in the late first or early second round in a normal draft class.

It would horribly foolish, IMO, to waste your first rounder on a safety this year. So, so many good players to choose from in the second or third round.... The Steelers will be biding their time and seeing who falls through the cracks....

Kenny Vaccaro deserves to go in the first round. I agree that there are some good players and great depth there this year.

My thought here is I'm not going to wait for others to pick a guy before I fill a need of my team, but that is just me.

It is no surprise that the Bengals need S help. So please guys, don't draft one in the first round!

Play makers in the secondary are high on the Lions needs as well....not pick number 5 high but, pick 36

Not a bad idea. Can play anywhere on the OL and DL. Also you can design plays around his crazy ability to throw the football from his butt. 3-6 buttrooski on two ready break.

There is a lot of safety depth, but Kenny Vaccaro and Matt Elam are cut above the rest. Both have the potential to be difference makers, not just good players. No one would be "an idiot" to take either in the 1st round.
