Since it's the offseason, and most of us have a lot more free time when it's not football season, I thought I would share this little gem:
http://www.coursera.com/ If you sign up for this site (totally free) you can audit real college classes from dozens of institutions... if you finish all the assignments with a passing grade you get a certificate of completion from the University.... or you can just enroll there and do the assignments you feel are a good fit... I figured I'd take some basic courses as refreshers during this winter lull I have before taking an MBA in Managerial Econ head-on. Right now I'm taking Calculus (Ohio State), Game Theory (Stanford), Precalculus (UCIrvine), Microecon (Illinois-Urbana Champagne) and Data Analysis (Johns Hopkins) This summer, I'll be taking Mathematical Thinking (Stanford), Financial Engineering (Wharton), MacroEcon (Melbourne), and ADHD Through the Lifespan (Penn Med School). This is such an awesome resource to get some learnin' in, and up your smarts. |

I think if you wanna work your ass off for a couple of days, you can still catch up on some of the Jan 28 classes.
You can just watch some of the intros to the courses... it's pretty sweet. |

Love the aspect of free education.
http://articles.latimes.com/2013/feb...redit-20130207 It is usually free to take a course through Coursera and other similar groups, including Udacity and edX. However, Coursera charges students $30 to $99 for a completion certificate for a class taken under surveillance monitoring that includes individualistic typing patterns to prove a student's identity. For an additional $60 to $90, a student will be eligible for the ACE credit by taking final exams proctored through webcams. A portion of those fees will go to schools such as UC Irvine that created the classes. Last edited by Ratboy; 02-09-2013 at 09:12 PM.. |

Anyone interested in doing some linear algebra? If you're in the area, we can do a study group.

On your smart phone too ![]() They make their money by using you as a free human translator for "real world documents" once you get proficient enough. It's actually fun. I'm actually considering making the transition to ed tech myself. |

I just read an article in EM about free music education resources. Some of these were created by a Womens non-profit that are now open to the public.
I have done some of the MIT lit based class work. I think I PM'ed Alec about that back about 4-5 years ago. Love Khan Academy BTW. Berkleeshares.com coursera.org/berklee Soundchannel.org youtube.com/user/berkleemusic youtube.com/user/womensaudiomissionsf |

Doing the same through a different program, EdX or something -- have some classes set up that start next week through MIT.

If you're willing to spend the money, I find the lectures at the Teaching Company to be amazing.
The courses on Mozart, photography, and Understanding the World's Greatest Structures are some of the greatest lectures I've ever heard in my life. Currently, my wife, son, and I are all watching the video lecture series of The Everyday Gourmet right now, and are loving it. I can't recommend the above 4 courses enough, and they have hundreds more (including math, business, and accounting, which seem to be the interests of the OP). |
