Seperation of Church and State? Not in California...
This is insane. There is no way in hell my kids would have been subjected to this. This is proof to me that Seperation of Church and State is liberal speak for anti-Christian bias. Californians tax dollars are going to fund this crap?
Abortion Ban Judge Approved Muslim Prayers
7:44 am PST, 2 June 2004
The same federal judge who, on Tuesday, ruled the government's ban on partial birth abortion was unconstitutional, also approved Muslim prayer in schools, though other courts have banned other denominations from prayer recitation.
In a December 2003 decision, U.S. District Judge Phyllis Hamilton decided that it was lawful for a California middle school teacher to require students to recite Muslim prayers, get down on their knees and role-play as Muslim adherents.
As a part of the class, students were required to recite the prayer: "In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful. Praise be to Allah, Lord of Creation, The Compassionate, the Merciful, King of Judgment-day! You alone we worship, and to You alone we pray for help, Guide us to the straight path."
The parents of one of the students sued the Byron County 7th grade teacher over the incident, claiming their child had been coerced to engage in a religious practice.
But in a summary judgement, Hamilton ruled the teacher's actions were legal and proper.
The teacher had prepared a class guide that said students, as part of the study of Islam, would "become Muslims."
Insert the word Christian for Muslim in the above paragraph and surely there would have been big friggin problems with it.
Having less dopes on the Fed Bench like this one is my main reason for voting GOP.
Court documents said the teacher read to students from the Koran, and also recited Muslim prayers. As students left class, they were required to recite the Muslim prayer, "In the name of God, most merciful, most gracious."
At the conclusion of the study of Islam, the teacher required students to write an essay about their experiences. But she instructed her students, "BE CAREFUL HERE If you don't have something positive to say, don't say anything!!!"
