Did Ray Lewis use banned deer-antler spray to return from triceps injury?
Sports Illustrated has published an in-depth examination of a company called Sports with Alternatives to Steroids (S.W.A.T.S.) and its relationship with high-profile athletes, including Baltimore Ravens linebacker Ray Lewis. The company specializes in holographic stickers, deer-antler pills, and other, um, progressive means of enhancing a player's performance. David Epstein and George Dohrmann write that S.W.A.T.S. owner Mitch Ross recorded a phone conversation with Lewis after the linebacker's injury in October. Hours after he tore his triceps during an Oct. 14 home game against the Cowboys, Ravens All-Pro linebacker Ray Lewis and Ross connected on the phone. Again, Ross videotaped the call. On the call, the two allegedly discuss the treatment that Lewis would undergo in order to return to the field as quickly as possible. Ross prescribed a deluxe program, including holographic stickers on the right elbow; copious quantities of the powder additive; sleeping in front of a beam-ray light programmed with frequencies for tissue regeneration and pain relief; drinking negatively charged water; a 10-per-day regimen of the deer-antler pills that will "rebuild your brain via your small intestines" (and which Lewis said he hadn't been taking, then swallowed four during the conversation); and spritzes of deer-antler velvet extract (the Ultimate Spray) every two hours. "Spray on my elbow every two hours?" Lewis asked. "No," Ross said, "under your tongue." Toward the end of the talk, Lewis asked Ross to "just pile me up and just send me everything you got, because I got to get back on this this week." http://www.philly.com/philly/blogs/t...substance.html |

Is this like roids and making him stronger? Because if it just allegedly helped him return to the field quicker; than who cares

I support injured players being allowed to take whatever they need to get back onto the field. It's their bodies. HGH i bet is used to virtually all players when they are rehabbing. They don't test for it ya know!

They should change up the rules and say you can go on roids but you have to be off 4 months before you can play again. That way players can do whatever it takes to play football for me on Sundays so i can be entertained.

Why not rhino horn or powdered tiger penis? I hear whale blubber can be used as heating oil.

So exactly what does deer antler spray supposedly do for a human body?

Its a banned substance, but the league doesn't test for it. LMAO. Sounds like something the federal government would do.

I think the real concern here is that outfits like this are the ideal front for new age designer PED cocktails, which can skate under the NFL's purview as being "all natural alternatives" without anyone actually getting to analyze their ****.

I find it annoying that PEDs are so easy for professional athletes to acquire, and it seems difficult for me.

Whether it's a banned substance or if he actually did it, by the time they figure it out what are they going to do....suspend him from one day of retirement?

Deer antler powder is known to contain trace amounts of IGF-1 (Insulin-like Growth Factor 1), it is a protein that is natural to the human body, has a structure similar to that of insulin and promotes cell growth and cell proliferation while inhibiting cell death. It acts very similarly to anabolic steroids and is an important hormone during childhood growth.
It is not the deer antler powder itself that is the issue, most of that is calcium carbonate and other salts that do nothing at all - the presence of IGF-1 is however an issue. It all comes down to how much he took and how much IGF-1 was present in the sample. |
