No Tom Moore?
No matter the OC, I think it's clear who the real shotcaller is in this offense. |

I like this hire, if it happens. Still kind of think he'll get a head job, though.
Having former head coaches as your top coordinators is a pretty damn good thing to have on your football team.

Interesting choice. It will be adjust to the offense but maybe that what we need now.

The thing is: Fox has already said that 10 times out of 10 he'd run on 3rd and 7 in the playoffs, so I don't see how this hiring helps us.
Fox needs to go before this team can grow a pair. |

May be experienced OC coach will convince Fox that we should not play conservative.

One reason I'd love this hire is that Wiz seemed at his best with a veteran QB, and at his worst with a young one. So, if we're more worried about getting a ring with Manning than we are about developing Brock, this is great.
One reason I wouldn't like this hire is that even with Fox's hands-off approach to managing his staff, we'd still have two ex head coaches at the coordinator positions. |

Maybe he can bring Fitz here and remove him from that hole in AZ...

John Fox offenses have historically run more than other teams. He usually finishes 50/50 in his ratio.

I'm sure it will come back around...but it takes a while for eras to come and go like that. I will have to admit, that for the next couple years at least, we should maximize our strength, which would be our giant receivers and Manning (and our Giant QB after Manning).

It already IS coming back in the form of the read option. Guys like Wilson, Kap, Newton, et al are not pocket passers, but hybrids that put up gaudy rush yards.

Those guys are good at throwing. You can't succeed in an option offense without passing the ball. Wilson is a highly underrated pocket passer IMO

Read option won't stick...it works....but it Kills QB's. The investments are just too important. Watch next season, when the defenses are instructed to Kill the QB....don't worry about fakes, just pound the QB.

If we'd had McGahee and Moreno healthy for that game Saturday, NE would be on their way here.

It's in its infancy in the NFL. The guys running it are bigger, stronger, faster, and more accurate throwing on the run. As with any offense, defenses adjust and then offenses adapt accordingly. YOu can't keep these guys in the pocket or you'll severely limit your chances of winning the game. The 'investment' is in a qb who can do what others like Manning, Ryan, et al can't. You protect it as best you can by limiting your risk while maximizing the reward, which means getting them out in space and running it wisely.

Brock Osweiller is excellent throwing on the run BTW.

It is a matter of time before the DCs figure out how to stop the read option running game. When that happens those QBs will be forced to throw from the pocket with an occasional roll out.
As long as we have Manning I'll trust him to make the correct call after surveying the D. |
