The Boston Globe was lying when it said reporter Michael Kranish was not connected to the campaign biography of John Kerry that it criticized internet reporter Matt Drudge for getting wrong.
All books for publication are given an ISBN number. Think of it as like a patent number or a Social Security Number. Every book gets one and it gets only one even if the name changes or the cover changes. Here's a book listed at the Barnes & Nobles web site: http://search.barnesandnoble.com/boo...86483145&itm=1 Note it lists Michael Kranish as the author of the introduction (and likely the ghostwriter of the entire book). Here's a bigger copy of the galley cover the publisher provided to B&N pre-publication: ![]() Note the ISBN number on the link: 1586383145. Now, here's the link to the official campaign bio with the new cover but still listing the author as Michael Kranish that was cached by Google: http://64.233.161.104/search?q=cache...+kranish&hl=en Note the ISBN number on the link: 1-58648-314-5. Now let's look at the revised publisher's cover which no longer lists an author. http://www.publicaffairsbooks.com/pu...5&view=excerpt Note the ISBN number on the link: 1-58648-314-5 And finally, the Amazon.com link that Drudge reported listed Michael Kranish as the author and that the Globe claims Drudge was mistaken. Later, Amazon agreed to "correct" the citation of Kranish at the behest of the Kerry campaign. http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg...books&n=507846 Note the ISBN number: 1586483145. The fact that Kranish and the Globe went after one of the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth and, according to the Vietnam veteran, misquoted and misrepresented his statements then felt the need to cover their tracks once it was disclosed that Kranish had ties to the Kerry campaign speaks volumes about the level of dishonesty that the Globe has regarding this entire issue. The proof is there. Kranish worked on the book in question, just as Drudge reported. Only the Globe, the publisher and the Kerry campaign felt the need to cover this up instead of being honest about the ties between the Kerry campaign and Kranish. Let's see those a-holes try to spin this! Last edited by TexanBob; 08-09-2004 at 12:59 AM.. |
