I know several nations have hate speech laws, but I know of no European country where you can get in trouble for saying anything negative about Israel. In fact, the entire European Union denounced Israel's resettlement plans just a few days ago. Are they going to self-impose a punishment?

There has been increasing international pressure on Israel -- which appears to have prevented Netanyahu from launching his planned invasion of Gaza a few weeks ago.

So this is good. Though I saw reports that the bombing of Gaza was even more intense.

Also -- none of the criticism you cited has deterred the Netanyahu gov't from going ahead with a new round of settlements. Israel has been resistant to any kind of pressure on this issue -- over the years -- largely because they can count on the support of the US gov't -- regardless of what they do.

The US should have made US aid contingent on Israel abiding by its promise to stop all settlement activity, home demolitions, and land confiscation until peace talks can produce an agreement.

Of course -- at the moment there are no peace talks -- for the same reason, i.e, the absence of US pressure. With AIPAC in control of Congress -- Obama is powerless to apply pressure. (Though if he was a genuine leader he would do it anyway.)

At the same time the propaganda war continues -- with Zionists continually trying to equate Israel = Zionism and criticism of Israel = anti semitism.

In Europe, most people have been cowed -- like here in the states.

Thank heaven we have not yet crossed that last line where all criticism is illegal. If I mis - spoke I stand corrected.
