Democrat Senator employed illegal alien sex offender

WASHINGTON (AP) - U.S. Sen. Robert Menendez employed as an unpaid intern in his Senate office an illegal immigrant who was a registered sex offender, now under arrest by immigration authorities, The Associated Press has learned. The Homeland Security Department instructed federal agents not to arrest him until after Election Day, a U.S. official involved in the case told the AP.

Menendez, D-N.J., who advocates aggressively for pro-immigration policies, was re-elected in November with 58 percent of the vote. The senator said his staff asks interns whether they are in the country legally but cannot check to be sure.

The prosecutor's office in Hudson County, N.J., said Sanchez was found to have violated the law in 2010 and subsequently required to register as a sex offender. The exact charge was unclear because Sanchez was prosecuted as a juvenile and those court records are not publicly accessible. [COLOR="Red"]The prosecutor's office confirmed to AP that Sanchez registered as a sex offender, although his name does not appear on the public registry[/COLOR].

Authorities in Hudson County notified ICE agents in early October that they suspected Sanchez was an illegal immigrant who was a registered sex offender and who may be eligible to be deported. ICE agents in New Jersey notified superiors at the Homeland Security Department because they considered it a potentially high profile arrest, and DHS instructed them not to arrest Sanchez until after the November election, one U.S. official told the AP. ICE officials complained that the delay was inappropriate, but DHS directed them several times not to act, the official said.

It was not immediately clear why federal immigration authorities would not have been notified sooner about Sanchez's status.

During discussions about when and where to arrest Sanchez, the U.S. reviewed Sanchez's application for permission to stay in the country as part of President Barack Obama's policy to allow up to 1.7 million young illegal immigrants avoid deportation and get permission to work for up to two years. As a sex offender, he would not have been eligible. U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, which oversees the program known as Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, notified Sanchez of that shortly before his arrest, one official said.


During the final weeks of President George W. Bush's administration, ICE was criticized for delaying the arrest of President Barack Obama's aunt, who had ignored an immigration judge's order to leave the country several years earlier after her asylum claim was denied.

In that case, the Homeland Security Department had imposed an unusual directive days before the 2008 election requiring high-level approval before federal agents nationwide could arrest fugitive immigrants including Zeituni Onyango, the half-sister of Obama's late father. The directive from ICE expressed concerns about "negative media or congressional interest," according to a copy of that directive obtained by AP. The department lifted the immigration order weeks later.

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton says she doesn’t plan to run for president in 2016, but she leaves open the opportunity.

In an interview with ABC’s Barbara Walters set to air Wednesday night, Clinton explains, “I’ve said I really don’t believe that that’s something I will do again. I am so grateful I had the experience of doing it before. I think there are lots of ways to serve, so I’ll continue to serve,” The Hill reports.

Clinton says she’s ready to try something different. “I just want to see what else is out there. I’ve been doing this incredibly important and satisfying work in Washington for 20 years. I want to get out and spend some time looking at what else I can do to contribute.”

And there are people in support of this. “It would cost about $20 billion for the government to effectively eliminate homelessness,” in this country for all time. Well, I don’t know about all time, because I don’t know how you end it. I don’t know how they spend the $20 billion.

But, according to a Housing and Urban Development official, who made the comment to the New York Times, we could spend $20 billion and effectively eliminate homelessness in this country. “That’s just slightly less money than Americans spend on Christmas decorations, according to an analysis from ThinkProgress,” which is a far-left Obama, Clinton, Democrat think tank. “Nearly 634,000 people were homeless last year, according to HUD.”

Now, when there are Republicans in the White House, it’s two to three million homeless. When a Democrat is in the White House, it’s 634,000 who are homeless. And note the comparison here: $20 billion is $20 billion. You know what we ought to do is run the numbers, which we’ve done. We’ve run the numbers. How much would it cost to insure the 30 so-called — actually, the real number of people that don’t have health insurance who want it is 16 million. That number has been run. I mean, there are a lot of young people uninsured that don’t want to spend the money, in a free market. No longer their choice, of course, now. But back in the days of freedom, and I realize I’m dating myself as an old fogy talking about freedom. I know it’s old-fashioned. But it means a lot to me and it’s gonna be a tough thing for me to let go of, I want you to know.

But the real number is 16 million. Do you realize how little it would cost to provide health insurance — even let’s use 30 million people. Compared to what we’re spending on Obamacare. And of course the reason for pointing this out is to illustrate that Obamacare is not about health care.

Three months ago today, President NObama woke up to the news that US Ambassador Chris Stevens and three other Americans had been murdered during a terrorist attack on our consulate in Benghazi. The president had been informed that an active attack was underway the night before — but how actively he followed the developing raid, and what (if any) orders he issued, remains a mystery. On September 12, the president skipped his daily intelligence briefing and flew to Las Vegas for a campaign rally. This much we know. The NObama campaign eventually accused Republicans of “politicizing” the massacre by asking questions about it, asserting that the “entire reason” it was a major national story was due to rank exploitation of Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan.

Even with the president’s re-election safely tucked away, the White House has continued to defend its UN Ambassador (and possible Secretary of State in waiting) against charges that she disseminated false information to mislead the public about the true nature of the deadly attack. The president and his top lieutenants have repeatedly dodged difficult questions, changed their stories, and hidden behind the dubious fig leaf of “ongoing investigations.” NObama has vowed to track down those responsible for the atrocities and bring them to justice. He has also stated his desire to find out exactly what happened in Benghazi that night. The federal investigation into the attacks got off to a stupefyingly dreadful start, and three months later, justice and accountability remain in short supply:

Americans are already seeing their healthcare premiums skyrocket, despite President Obama saying his healthcare legislation would make them go down. A new Rasmussen Report shows the vast majority of Americans don’t believe NObamaCare will cost as little as promised.

Voters are narrowly divided in their views of President Obama’s national health care law, but a sizable majority thinks the law is likely to cost taxpayers more than has been officially estimated.

The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey shows that 46% of Likely U.S. Voters have a favorable impression of the health care law, while 49% view it unfavorably. This includes 16% with a Very Favorable opinion and 35% with a Very Unfavorable one.
