Well even if not an app, a mobile version would be appreciated. I know TJ is a busy guy but this site is behind the times.

I've been eyeballing VB 4 for awhile, but they're about to release VB5 connect, which is currently in beta. I'm probably going to skip 4 and go directly to 5 when it's released. vB5 is optimized for mobile (or so they say, I haven't yet tested it thoroughly yet). But I expect by next season we'll be on the new platform, and so I don't expect to put a lot of resources into a mobile app right now for the software version that's on its way out the door.

I really don't understand what's difficult about viewing the site on a mobile browser. I used it pretty often. I'm genuinely curious as this goes at the heart of my not understanding the app phenomenon since getting to them is so much slower and they have less options.

I use the Dolphin app which is free, then make OM my homepage. The nice thing about it is once into the site you double tape the page and it sizes it to fit the screen. I don't know why you need an app. It runs smooth.

What about getting it picked up by tapatalk? I use that to view a lot of forums that aren't optimized. Have you looked into how you could get the OM on there Taco? It's free to activate for any forum.
Here, if you have a minute you could sctivate it pretty easily here with the free option. If you so desire. http://www.tapatalk.com/pricing.php Last edited by myMind; 11-29-2012 at 10:48 AM.. |

i use my ipod every so often or phone. but as has been said its not optimal so i definitely think the mobile version would improve that.

I tend to hate sites that push an app on you. Who wants an app for every forum they visit? And I know mobile themes are well intentioned, but it seems like a majority break some important functionality of the desktop website. Most of the time, if they provide a link to bypass the mobile theme, I use it.
I've been on android for awhile. With Opera Mini before I got my new phone that runs Chrome. I think the future is about mobile browsers that can better handle desktop sites, and probably also websites better designed for either type of user. So if it were me, I wouldn't waste a bunch of time/$$$ on any app or mobile-only themes. |

Use it on my iPhone when I'm at work, can also moderate with it even though it takes awhile.

ios is app driven because apple sells the hardware at break even and makes money from their app cut but 95% of those apps are completely pointless. Android is more browser driven because that's how they make their money. Windows phone 8 is a marriage of the two. I use the email, weather, mapping and song tagging apps on my iphone. Beyond that I can't bring myself to like something I find slower to access. |

Maybe I'm not using it right, but the site apps I have on my Android offer very little advantage over using a straight browser. Banks, eBay, Wiki, agencies, Craigslist, PayPal, where's the advantage?

Is it a data usage issue? If not, I see no problem with opening a browser...

Oh I see, using the app saves data ... okay, thanks. I'm unlimited, but I think Virgin slows your transfer rate if you hit a certain level, so I will use the apps after all, thanks.

Ive been asking for tapatalk for a couple years now, but seem to be the only one, Cant say I blame TJ for not doing it for 1 or 2 posters, Im still not sure there is enough demand, Also not sure this is something that should be started mid season, sounds like more of an off season project. What happens if something goes wrong and the site is down on game day ? Sometimes its best just to leave well enough alone.

I would also recommend that if you guys want to help Taco improve the site, the end of the year is a great time to send him a donation. I look at it as a subscription for something I get to use all the time. I was going to wait a couple weeks but maybe I will send in what I can now while I am thinking about it.
It is hard to do improvements when one dude is floating the boat for them. Just a thought. |
