Default Petraeus exonerates the White House on Benghazi

Disappointing news for Chick-fil-A Nation...

Via AP, General Petraeus, sworn under oath, in public hearings today "disputed Republican suggestions that the White House misled the public on what led to the violence in the midst of President Barack Obama's re-election campaign" according to Rep. Adam Schiff.

Rep Schiff adds
"There was an interagency process to draft it, not a political process," Schiff said after the hearing. "They came up with the best assessment without compromising classified information or source or methods. So changes were made to protect classified information. "The general was adamant there was no politicization of the process, no White House interference or political agenda," Schiff said. "He completely debunked that idea."
For Republicans politicizing Benghazi this is a serious, insulting blow. Their greatest hero takes Obama's side on this issue under oath.

Now let's see if McCain and Graham are honorable enough to apologize.

All that hard work by Spammer Dan, et al, for nothing...

General Petraeus' remarks today on Capitol Hill have left the right's conspiracy theories about Benghazi in tatters.

Petraeus takes the wind from conspiracy theorists' sails

In the week since former CIA Director David Petraeus announced his resignation, the right has come up with a variety of colorful conspiracy theories, all of which have been debunked.

Was his sex scandal hidden from public view to boost President Obama's re-election prospects? No.

Was the White House blackmailing him? No.

Did he step down to avoid congressional testimony on Benghazi? No.

But over the last day or so, the right has stumbled upon a new micro-scandal: the original CIA draft materials referenced specific suspected terrorists, but their names were removed and replaced with the word "extremist" in the final draft.

"A ha!" the conspiracy theorists proclaim. "This proves Obama's people hid key details! It's clear evidence of ... something!"

It's really not.
Ex-CIA Director David Petraeus told lawmakers Friday that classified intelligence showed the deadly raid on the U.S. Consulate in Libya was a terrorist attack, but that the administration withheld the suspected role of specific al-Qaida affiliates to avoid tipping off the terrorist groups.

The recently resigned spy chief explained that references to terrorist groups suspected of carrying out the violence were removed from the public explanation of what caused the attack so as not to tip off the groups that the U.S. intelligence community was on their trail, according to lawmakers who attended the private briefings.

Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) noted that Petraeus "was adamant there was no politicization of the process, no White House interference or political agenda. He completely debunked that idea."

The names of terrorists believed to be involved were removed for reasons of national security, and all of the relevant intelligence agencies signed off on the edited text. As Sen. Mark Udall (D-Colo.) explained to the AP, "[I]n an unclassified document you want to be careful who you identify as being involved."

Susan Rice then relied on the intelligence community's findings to update the public five days after the attack, and everything she said reflected the best information available at the time.

And before Fox News suggests Petraeus is still lying in order to protect the Obama administration, let's not forget that Petraeus is no longer part of the Obama administration. He's a private citizen, free to speak his mind -- and in this case, everything Petraeus is saying is consistent with everything the White House has said.

Petraeus' remarks have left the right's conspiracy theories in tatters.

How in the hell did you get that from what I posted, and no I'm not suggesting that, I said don't post information from "The maddowblog msnbc".

Are we going to ignore the elephant in the room, who is responsible for not providing protection to the US consulate in Benghazi that left US Ambassador Chris Stevens and three other Americans dead?

I knew that from the beginning, when Romney tried to make political points off the blood of dead Americans. Partisan hacks like McCain and Graham have been doing the same thing ever since. These guys would take the gold teeth out of their dead grandmothers if it would serve their political interest. What happened at Benghazi was a tragedy. We should learn from it, and not make the same mistakes again.

Didn't mean to put words in your mouth, just asking if you were disputing the report and his testimony?

Sorry but they should have had more security to begin with. I can believe that they lied about who they thought did it to protect an investigation though. But no way should have the requests for more security leading up to the attack been denied. It's still a failure by the state dept and the white house to not properly protect the consulate.

It's hard to say. I do think it's possible considering how all the sudden the govt has his career by the balls.

Really though i could care less what the govt calls something on the news. Whatever do what you have to do to catch people. My problem is that they didn't have enough security in the most volatile of regions to begin with. Then when it happened they didn't do enough to help them.

It's not hard to say, either you do or don't think that. You know what you think, right? And if you do, I assume you think David Petreus should be in prison. And if you don't, then obv there is no "conspiracy".
