Amazing sweep from how they had to come back to win some series of their own. I wanted Tigers to represent the AL nicely but not to be. SO did SSJ have tickets for game 5?

I had a bud call me up with an extra ticket for Game 3 of this series, but I had a lot going on Saturday and didn't want to fork over $300+ to go up there and then have to drive back that night. If I go to a game like that, I want to be able to down some beers and stay at a hotel in nearby Greek Town. |

Source: Torii Hunter to Tigers Free-agent outfielder Torii Hunter has reached agreement on a two-year, $26 million deal with the Detroit Tigers pending a physical exam, a baseball source said Wednesday. Hunter, 37, is a .277 hitter with 297 home runs and nine Gold Gloves in 14 seasons with the Minnesota Twins and Los Angeles Angels. He hit .313 with the Angels in 2012, but his five-year, $90 million contract expired after the season, and the Angels declined to make him a $13.3 million qualifying offer. That means the Tigers are not obligated to give the Angels draft-pick compensation in exchange for signing Hunter. The Tigers struck quickly after having Hunter come to Detroit for a visit Monday. They'll plug him into a lineup that includes Triple Crown winner Miguel Cabrera, All-Star first baseman Prince Fielder and catcher-DH Victor Martinez, who missed the entire 2012 season with a knee injury. |

Torii's batting average climbed big time in the 2nd half and was probably one of the best averages after the all star break. Angels knew he would sign for less to extend a contract but then he went bat crazy at the plate and earned his $26 million. Personally, I don't see him duplicating his production and at his age, 2nd year might be tough. He will be protected in the Detroit lineup so it should help him. I still think he has what it takes to play right field.
Good luck Torii, great teammate and great to listen to in interviews. Angels better start getting some players like Greinke. |

In Detroit, yeah I think he declines a lot, especially his age. Before last season, he never hit .300 but came close one time.
I laughed though when I saw this, remembering one of you Tiger fans in here proclaiming how great Boesch and Delmon Young were. Boesch looks like he is getting benched and Young let go in FA. |

I'd like you to find the posts where anyone called either of them 'great'.
Boesch showed flashes of potential at times and then tailed off and Delmon Young has been clutch in the playoffs the last 2 years. Unfortunately, Delmon Young is primarily a DH these days and Victor Martinez will be the DH in Detroit next season. |

R.A. Dickey won the National League Cy Young on Wednesday, becoming the first knuckleballer to receive the honor.
Dickey, who went 20-6, received 27 of 32 first-place votes and 209 overall points in balloting by the Baseball Writers' Association of America. Los Angeles Dodgers left-hander Clayton Kershaw finished second with two first-place votes and 96 points, followed by Washington Nationals left-hander Gio Gonzalez, who received one first-place vote and 93 points. David Price of the Tampa Bay Rays won the AL Cy Young Award on Wednesday in one of the closest votes ever. Price beat out 2011 winner Justin Verlander by only four points in balloting by the Baseball Writers' Association of America. Other than a 1969 tie between Mike Cuellar and Denny McLain, it was the tightest race in the history of the AL award. |

Miguel Cabrera, the first Triple Crown winner since 1967, beat out Mike Trout for the AL MVP in one of the most hotly contested races ever.

Miguel Cabrera was named the American League's MVP on Thursday, beating rookie phenom Mike Trout by a much wider margin than most anticipated.
Cabrera, baseball's first Triple Crown winner since 1967, received 22 out of 28 possible first-place votes for the award. The Detroit Tigers slugger batted .330 with 44 home runs and 139 RBIs. Trout received the other six first-place votes three days after being named the AL Rookie of the Year. Last edited by SouthStndJunkie; 11-15-2012 at 05:12 PM.. |

Nice fishing.
Miggy was barely 20 years old when he came into the league....dude filled out in his 20s. He was practically a kid when made his MLB debut. I'm sure it's possible he is on some performance enhancing drugs, but he's never been remotely linked to them. His numbers have been very consistent, with no tell tale monster spikes in production. I'll never say never when it comes to that stuff....but I also don't believe in labeling that tag on someone without a shard of evidence....and him filling out in his 20s doesn't count. Most dudes on roids get a lot of injuries and Miggy has played in 150+ games every year of his career, outside of the year he was called up as a rookie. |

I heard on Mike & Mike this morning a mention of how Keith Law thought it was ridiculous that Cabrera won MVP over Trout. I have to agree with him, based on the artice from September linked below, that offensive stats are given too much weight relative to defensive stats. Trout is the better all around player. But I don't have a problem with Cabrera winning it, clearly he had an outstanding year by any standard.

Price winning the CY and Cabrera winning the MVP, don't like it.
Verlander and Trout were more deserving, too often people like at those "traditional" stats and say "WOW!" As in Price leading the AL in wins, and Cabrera winning the MVP mainly due to him hitting 2 more home runs than Hamilton. |
