Pass Rusher Power Rankings: Von Miller on top
We've rolled weekly random power rankings this season for quarterbacks, coaches, fanbases, and divisions. It's time to break out a new one: Pass rushers. These are the guys we want for 2012 -- no historical achievement awards. Top Shelf: Von Miller, Cameron Wake, J.J. Watt, DeMarcus Ware, Clay Matthews, and Jason Pierre-Paul With the exception of Ware, this is a "new generation" type of list. Matthews and Ware both have strong arguments as the best 3-4 outside linebacker pass rushers. Miller almost plays his own position; no one has been more disruptive over the last month. Watt is an MVP candidate and gets extra credit for creating so much pressure from an interior position. Wake might be the most underrated player in football. Using Pro Football Focus' numbers, no pass rusher has more combined sacks, QB hits, and hurries. (Miller is second.) JPP started the season slower as a pass rusher but he's a dominant run stuffer. I just couldn't leave him off this list. He'd be my No. 1 overall draft pick of any defender in the league. Next level: Jared Allen, Aldon Smith, Julius Peppers, Geno Atkins, Charles Johnson, and Chris Long Allen and Peppers may not be playing at the highest level of their careers, but they are still big difference makers. Peppers lines up inside a lot. Smith has certainly avoided a sophomore slump in San Francisco. Like Watt, Atkins gets credit for getting pressure up the middle. Johnson makes a lot of money from the Panthers, but he's been worth it. He has 10 sacks and 32 hurries. Only Wake and Miller have more combined sacks, hits, and hurries. The Falcons were out-bid for Johnson and settled for Ray Edwards in 2011 free agency. Whoops. To Read More Click the link: http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap100...-miller-on-top |

So arguably we have the best defensive player and the best offensive player in the league.
The best field goal kicker and what could turn out to be the best return man. |

I honestly don't think Doom is as good as any of the guys on the "next level". Don't get me wrong he's good, just not in that same class.
He belongs with Mathis, Abraham, Hali, Houston, but not with Peppers, Allen or Johnson Aldon Smith and Chris Long should be moved down from the "next level" Last edited by broncs2bowl; 11-15-2012 at 11:33 AM.. |

On that "Next level" Jared Allen has the following: 7 sacks, 1 PD, 1 FF Aldon Smith 9.5 sacks, 1 FF Peppers 6 sacks Atkins 7 sacks 1 FF Charles Johnson 8.5 sacks, 2 PD, 5 FF Chris Long 5 sacks Really, on that "Next level" only CHarles Johnson is clearly ahead of Dumervil. Smith is having a hell of a year but Dumervil has caused 4 more fumbles than him while only having 2.5 fewer sacks. Everyone else, Dumervil has better numbers than. edit: Keep in mind, this is for THIS year. Not career. |

![]() It's just insane to think of what Miller will look like in 2 years from now. I mean, the dude is halfway through only his 2nd season, and half of the first season he played with a damn club on the end of his arm. He's stepped up the penetration to the point where I think he's the best in the league. He's improved against the run. If he can improve that pass coverage, we're talking he go down as one of the best LB's to ever play the game. I know that's looking ahead really far but I'm just forecasting, if he plays at this level for the next 10 years, people will be using his name like we use Lawrence Taylor. |
