So now that reality has jumped up and bit you in the face, once again, with precedent defying landslide re-election of mediocre, center-right president despite a poor economy, will the right finally get with the program and start working for the country instead of for their own interests?
For four years now the right has engaged in some of the most embarrassing and counter-productive behavior I have seen in my lifetime. Birthers, 'secret Muslim' conspiracy theories, 2nd amendment fear mongering, extremist tax pledges, and so on. The right has, as best, contributed nothing, and more likely only added to the problems with obstructionism -- even of ideas that originated with or had serious support of the right -- for the sake of political gain (that has backfired). And this obstructionism, which I'm sure the righties here will claim isn't happening, isn't just opinion, it's a fact that your politicians will readily admit to; and they'll do so even in writing. Whether it's your political leaders admitting that their number one priority is to further their own agenda (getting the democrat out of the white house), the no compromise take on most issues (even to the extreme of, for example, treating women as expendable brood mares) or all but a handful of your representatives putting in writing that they refuse to, under any circumstance, compromise on fiscal policy it's a mere fools errand to claim that there is even the pretense of cooperation going on within your ranks. It's despicable that, in a country that is built on a foundation of major compromise, we have a powerful political party that refuses to engage in compromise that is supported by a clear majority of the electorate -- including a large part of their own party. Is the left wing blameless or even close to perfect? Certainly not. Now, you may proceed to the personal attacks and other buffoonery. |
