I so got suckered in like that when I was younger. I was at a new job and didn't really know anyone and there was a guy I worked with who seemed pretty cool. It wasn't before too long that he invited me to his place for a party or a "get together" with some other people. Being that I was new and eager to make new friends I said sure. I get to his place (he was newly married) and it's a bunch of people being sold on a pyramid scheme.

Well to be honest, Mark Jackson is schlepping Bazi. Which is also a multi level marketing model too. A member posted about it here and we were joking about it, to which you got upset about. Granted this was before the proliferation of Facebook as an every hour tool of society. So I can see your point about the message that is sent with those over the top posts.

Note: the one member was in no way posting that over the top stuff so these aren't similar situation in that aspect. Just the whole MLM discussion jogged the memory.

No, I can totally understand. I think MLM is perfect for ex athletes because they can use their popularity and notoriety to recruit.

I wasn't calling you out. I just was surprised you were so against Rod Smith and his "super" coffee because you were quick to come to his support. So I was surprised. But it is more about the message than the product I think.

This is 100% true. When I was at BYU I was dating this cute girl. We ran into one of her friends in a Provo grocery working. After talking a bit he said that was just his side job and he had an exciting business opportunity for both of us. After declining, as we were walking away I turned to her and said "Man I hate those stupid pyramid schemes. What a waste." She looked at me a little shocked and then said "You know I'm a private business owner." I was floored and asked what she meant. Turns out she was in one and was selling energy drink

I couldn't believe it. And so many people there just buy into it.

You ever talk to that retired firefighter and tell him to come back to the Mane or is he so hurt that Apa, me and a few others joked around his BAZI scheme ..I mean Bazi business opportunity.

MLM has good products most of the time but charge way too much for it because they need to pay multi levels and of course still keep a huge profit.

The stats on these high paid athletes have been floating around for a while. How many of them end up broke from spending a boat load of money on things like trips to Vegas and women? Most of them.

Maybe Von will be an exception to the rule. Hopefully he will. But if he's living the lifestyle that's pictured on the first page of this tread, he doesn't have much of a chance. And lets not act like that's not a sign of a guy blowing through his money. Does it mean he is blowing through his money? No. Is it simply a sign? Hell yeah!!!!

You're right, we don't know. For all we know this was just one crazy weekend he had, and that's really not the lifestyle that he leads. But come on, chances are that is the lifestyle that he leads, just like the rest of them.

I want to make it clear, I am in no way judging him as a person. I went back and read some of this tread, where people were calling him a prick and other names. I in no way think this is a sign that he is a bad guy. If he wants to blow his money, there is really nothing wrong with that, well, legally or morally. It's stupid, but that doesn't make somebody a bad guy.

The pictures that started this thread are a sign that he is living the lifestyle that the bulk of these high priced athletes lead, and that lifestyle leads them to being broke. I don't see the issue in pointing that out.

This kind of seems like a conversation that I've had with a female family member. I was making a point that most people who get married or into a serious, long term relationship at a young age (late teens or early 20s), and have children, usually end up breaking up, which did happen to me. Then she got all bent out of shape, saying that just because it happened to me doesn't mean that it will happen to most people, and that everybody is different. Well guess what, most of the people that I know who did that ended up breaking up with the person that they were with, and some of them end up getting into having multiple children with multiple people (I didn't do that). Funny that the stats shows that it is true. I believe that 90 percent of couples who were married as teenagers end up divorced. Hey, but everybody is different. lol Really thinking about it, I only know one couple from high school that is still together 15 years later. I've had an active dating life over the years, and it is a trip how many single women I come across who have children, and single women say the same thing about men that they date.

The point of that side story is that when people engage in a lifestyle where a high percentage of those people end up in a certain situation, then chances are that person is going to end up just like the rest of them.

I get what you are saying but Von in year 2 seems more focused and mature. Less porn chicks and gambling and more work and charitable work
