Yes we did (LG actually, Kuper is RG).
Weird ... I don't think this guy is tapped into conventional wisdom, or perhaps any kind of wisdom. If Franklin were playing that well, Fox and others would be singing his praises. |

So then by using the logic that the coaches aren't singing the praises of the OL they are bad. Well I guess that means they all suck except Clady.

I have a hard time with any measurement claiming Franklin is the best pass blocking RT would then say someone else is the best overall RT. Franklin is clearly a superior run blocker, so while he's come a long ways as a pass blocker and is getting a nice bump from Manning I just have a hard time putting faith in a metric that underrates his run blocking relative to his pass blocking skills.
Anyhow, Franklin's biggest problem at this point is Orlando Franklin. He's handled pretty much all of his match ups quite well this season, its the penalties that drag down his overall level of play. When he gets that under control he'll be an elite RT. |

Franklins doing great. Not about Franklin but re:topic
I don't understand why people keep trying with these metrics. Time and time again they've been humiliated because there's too many variables influencing ceteris Paribus. |

To be fair Baja much of that stemed from deep mistrust in Zane Beadles. Honestly, did you see Zane blossoming like this in his third season? I'll be honest, I didn't. Even as a huge proponent of patient player development I never saw this coming. Contextually the Manes arguments were reasonable, and if I'm not mistaken fueled further by a speculative John Fox comment where he suggested the potential shift. Plus, when SoCal isn't drooling over a Broncos draft pick from the U I get worried. Naw wadda mean?

To an extent. OTOH You're too myopic and incapable to notice that someone like Beadles is getting to, making and finishing blocks where he's been blown off the snap before. Or how much stronger we are at C with Koppen instead of Walton. Things like that have nothing to do with Manning son. |

Koppen is an upgrade, nobody said he wasn't.....but you're still too butt hurt by the dumping of your hero from UF to see that Peyton being a perfectionist and having higher standards is contagious to his teammates. He holds them accountable because he's a much better leader who commands respect and demands nothing but the very best out of himself and his team mates. Guys like Thomas and Decker while still making the occasional mistake are head and shoulders better than they were when they had cro-magnon clown throwing the ****ing ball to and mentoring them. |

Manning does have a quick release and gets rid of the ball in a hurry. But there have been plenty of plays - when we've been behind - when the OL has had to pass protect for longer than 2.5 seconds. The Broncos are among the league leaders in passes thrown over 20 yards and that doesn't happen with quick dump off passes. Combine that with the number of times we're passing the ball (compared to last year) then the OL has individually improved. Beadles in particular doesn't get blown up in the run game like he used to. He still has the occasional play where the just whiffs but those have been far fewer. One of the big things has been another full offseason of conditioning and working hard compared to last year where these guys didn't have that opportunity. |

The way this offense is run says more about the OL in pass protection than any stat.
1. We routinely pass the ball 30+ times a game. 2. We don't run max protect fronts to protect Manning. We'll keep a RB in there to block but you don't see us really going with 6+ blockers unless it's an overloaded blitz. That says more about how the coaches feel the OL is performing because if the pass protection wasn't good enough then you'd see a lot more max protect fronts and not passing the ball as often with 5/7 step drops. |
