JJ Watt "Rocketing UP" draft boards
Who would have thunk it? ![]() MLive.com's Tom Kowalski suggests that Wisconsin DE J.J. Watt "rocketed up" draft boards at the Scouting Combine. Weighing in at 6'5 3/8" and 290, Watt bench pressed 225 lbs 34 times with 34-inch arms, ran a 4.84 forty, broad jumped 10 feet, and posted a 37-inch vertical. Belief that Watt is just a "try-hard guy" was dispelled in Indy. He also beat out much smaller pass rushers like Aldon Smith in the ten-yard split. No surprise.
Great measurables, amazing athlete for a guy his size, impeccable character. Not sure why he was ever rated as anything other than a 1st round lock. Not in play for us though, I don't think. |

"10. John Engelberger (2000) John Engelberger was always willing to work hard. He went from walking on to the Virginia Tech team his freshman year to being a first-team All-Big East player his senior season. It was this type of work ethic that helped him wow scouts at the combine and move up the draft charts. Engelberger was projected to be picked somewhere in the middle of the draft but he boosted his stock in Indianapolis. He ran a 4.73 40, measured a 34-inch vertical, and showed extreme quickness for a defensive lineman in the three-cone drill. Engelberger was rewarded by being selected 35th overall by the San Francisco 49ers. He had a decent career, lasting nine years in the league but only managed 20.5 sacks in 139 games." |

Adam Carriker would be a better comp, he climbed draft boards and went in the top 10, much like Watt probably will. Carriker's problem was that he landed on a bad 4-3 club that wanted him to be a pass rusher though. If he'd gone to a solid 3-4 D and was developed as a 5 tech he'd probably be pretty damn solid right now. |

JJ Watt will be decent, but not for our scheme. I don't doubt his athleticism or competitiveness. I do worry that he only had one semi productive year and changed positions throughout his collegiate career. Of course, I have doubts about every DE/DT except Ryan Kerrigan. He's the only one with a great body of work, faced double teams constantly (didn't really have another threat on the line) and put up decent numbers despite not getting as many rush attempts. He will be a very solid pro.

From performances since that draft Watt is the one I would have wanted if we had not gotten Miller. I am happy with Miller. |

![]() The only good thing about this thread is the reminder that the Dirk-worshiping texan isn't posting here anymore |

Honestly, I think this kid has the potential to be one of the best pass rushers in the league within two years. He has a great motor. I bet he'll go to a team like Houston, who really needs some help on the line. Book him in the first round.

Also, he has a great motor with deceptive speed. Not the best athlete, but a workout warrior. High effort, blue-collared guy. That is all. |

I think it's more likely he went Mock on us than it is that he picked up the new username.

nyuk nyuk doesn't quite deny it, and if you spend any time in the WRP thread (for the love all that is good in this world, do not get sucked into that vortex like I have), then you will see almost identical posts, styles, and ideologies between nyuk nyuk and epic. Plus epic already had the rep for changing a name once to avoid continued embarrassment as the drama llama... though not sure if that was a whole reboot on posts or not.

J.J. Watt is one of the most athletic DL in the NFL ever. Don't get it twisted.

And there's too many children in the WRP for me. I have to be pretty damn bored to subject myself to that for discussion. |
