Default Progressive Democrats - how you can help (v1.0)

"You can’t change Washington from the inside. You can only change it from the outside." - Barack Obama

Right now there's a ~40% chance we'll be returning to the Bush Administration (the exact same ne'er-do-wells are playing for Romney now). That's close, but there are so many close races this election that a couple hours spent participating in our democracy can have a huge, positive impact. Way more than being frustrated on a messageboard.

Phone Canvassing Online From Home

The idea with phone canvassing isn't to change anyone's mind, there's no debating - you just call and remind democrats (typically older ones) to mail in their votes. Most registered voters are democrat, but they just don't turn up to the polls as often as republicans. However, they will if you remind them. It's easy and fast.

The Young Turks (the youtube guys) for progressive democrats: Elizabeth Warren, Alan Grayson, Annie Kuster, etc. You can sign up for a 2 hour shift, and can secure 40+ votes for a good candidate.
http://act.boldprogressives.org/surv...s/?source=totv

PDA Progressive Phone Bank - larger list of candidates than TYT, but they seem to be focusing on Alan Grayson right now. If you think it's important to have democrats voting in Florida - go with them.
http://www.pdacommunity.org/make-pho...for-candidates

Anyone know any others?

Get out the vote in Colorado

These guys do a great job of educating people on local issues and canvassing on foot:
http://progressivecoalition.org/civicrm/profile/create?reset=1&gid=3

Planned Parenthood Action Colorado - If you're a single, hetero guy, phone banking on location is going to be heaven. Smart young ladies who put out, little to no competition, and I guarantee no future child support bills. This is exactly what one young woman told me when I volunteered, and that she wants to see more single guys there. If you're conservative it's worth faking it.

http://www.ppvotescolorado.org/actio...volunteer.html

(If you're not in colorado, other states at the link below)
http://www.plannedparenthoodaction.o...ations-798.htm

Donating
After Citizens United our "free-speech dollars" aren't comparable to corporation's "anonymous free-speech megaphones" so your impact isn't going to do as much as it did in past elections, but it still helps, especially on smaller races.

Local Colorado Progressives, who would greatly value any small donation:
http://tinyurl.com/9xw7w5x

Other good organizations
http://coprogressiveaction.org/
http://www.pdamerica.org/
http://elizabethwarren.com/
http://congressmanwithguts.com/

538 has a list of senate races that give you the most "bang for your buck" - check the right side when clicking on the "Senate Nov. 6 Forecast" tab.
http://fivethirtyeight.blogs.nytimes.com/

Conclusion

Did I miss anything? Is there anything else productive people can do? Any links I should add or remove? I've never been very politically active before, so if you're a veteran of such things please chime in.

Your time is more valuable than your dime.

We *need* smart people to help. Desperately.
Here's Paul Broun, begging you to canvas:

He's a high-ranking member of the Committee on Science, Space & Technology. Fellow science expert Todd Akin is also a member.

Excellent work. What organization do you canvas with? Links plz!

We need more, though! Fivethirtyeight lists Rawmoney as the favorite to win Colorado now.

I understand how you feel. Dumbass Missourians keep voting republican as well.............

Lot of these fools worried about their guns and god more than their money in their pockets or who will protect medicare and social security. Most of the dumbasses vote against their own best interests.

I don't blame all of them. For the past 40 years corporations have built a powerful marketing machine, and without my privileged life, I'd probably believe some conservative radio, cable news, and WSJ op-eds as well.

Look at the post above, for example. Despite nearly zero cases of deliberate voter fraud, the myth holds on - that's the power of billions of dollars in marketing, think tanks, paranoia sites, a near total radio takeover, etc. It's incredibly effective.

HOWEVER - we can defeat it. Right-wing corporate donations can be countered with a flood of progressive phone calls.

One way you progressives can really make a difference is vote for the party that isn't taking money from corporations or has been corrupted by big business, lawyers or banks.

I am talking about the Green Party of Colorado. Is there really a difference between the Democrats and Republicans fundamentally? I say no. That's why I think if you're liberal minded and open to fighting for the little guy, I think the Green party is the party for you:

Quote:
The Green Party is a political alternative for those committed to building a sustainable and just society. What makes Green politics different is a holistic, ecological outlook that recognizes the interconnection of all life and social processes, and that neither social nor environmental problems can be solved in isolation from each other. We pursue a broad conception of politics that embraces electoral efforts, the development of alternative institutions, education for empowerment, nonviolent direct action, and ecological lifestyles. We choose these issues based on the Colorado Green Party Core Values
Here are some of the Colorado candidates for the green party:
http://www.coloradogreenparty.org/vote-green/

Please also donate to the green party. At least you'll know your money will be spent on candidates true to their values:

Maybe those voter registration people who were actually working for republicans should throw away a few more democratic voter registrations ?

That is gawd damn lie, never ever once was that true.

They wanted everyone to have early voting, not just the military.

Republicans were the ones with BS voter ID laws and closing polls fro early voting and etc and then tried to twist stuff up saying OBAMA was trying to stop military from voting.

OUTRIGHT DAMN LIE AND YOU ARE A POS FOR REPEATING IT.

That's correct.

Amazing how these douche bags can just ignore the fact and continue to run their mouths like they're on some kind of moral high ground.

I wish both Gary Johnson and Jill Stein were viable candidates. The political discourse would be a lot more meaningful than the manufactured media horse race and the distilling down of the political process to the Obama's a poopy head, Romney's a poopy head Facebook-O-Rama that it currently is.

I donate to the Green party.

I have a feeling someone's upset that it's more successful than the Libertarian party. Without Koch money.

Are you saying that only because you believe Nader gave us the great George W. Bush, or do you actually find something intrinsically good with the Green Party?

I want the Green Party to prosper, and become a viable alternative for progressives to go to when they feel like the Democrat Party doesn't represent their values to their satisfaction.

trollin' in support of da 2 party system

In all honesty though, even though spdirty is trolling, it's good to have an alternative.

Populist Party votes eventually forced democrats to nominate a man like FDR.

Every time you vote green it sends a clear message to the DNC - we want more progressive candidates.

And the DNC has responded:
http://www.pdacommunity.org/make-pho...for-candidates
^ All of those candidates share Green Party views, and we can get them elected in their razor-close races with a few calls.
