If the only reason for putting Leonhard back there is because he always catches the ball and is unlikely to fumble, put someone else back there.
Like someone else said, at least twice there should have been good returns but Leonhard was so slow he netted like 5 yards. |

maxdenver commented on this previously, basically said leonhard will catch the ball every time. with this team and this offense, thats all they need, we dont need a dynamic return guy, just a guy who will secure the ball for denver 100% of the time and also pick up a couple yards on the way.

Ahh yes. Are the schools that bad out there that they don't teach you reading comprehension? I wasn't referring to just yesterday. Do we not play games outside Denver? Unlike you, I can retain my thoughts and draw on past observations. Where did I say yesterday? So we didn't have a single kickoff return all season? Go buy some lottery tickets hillbilly.

Good kick returners can return the ball even when it's kicked into the EZ. Do you really think if we had Harvin returning kicks in Denver we would just take a knee?

That goes against your earlier point that we're just taking a knee left and right.
Bolden has shown that if it's 1 to 5 yards deep, he's going to bring it out. Any deeper and he won't. It's pretty simple. We're not taking a knee just for the fun of it. |

No I said do you think that if we had Harvin he would just take a knee? Our leading guy last year had 17 returns, we are on pace for more then that and I don't think Bolden is that good. The original post about kick return game was asking for a better guy back there returning kicks and Rock and you said it wasn't needed.

I think this is the explanation. We all know Fox is pretty conservative, and at this point his thinking is let's get the ball reliably every time and get in Peyton's hands. It's not exactly a crazy thought process. But I would predict that by the middle of the season he will have enough confidence in someone like Bolden to put them back there.

Bringing in Leonhard only when we have the lead would seem like the solution. I dont buy that Decker is our next best option either.

Will everyone be ok with fumbles once in a while, allowing teams to score off of our ST mistakes? That is what an inexperienced returner will give us, possibly a good return here or there, maybe one TD all year. I don't think it's worth it as long as Leonard (however you spell it) is catching balls and making good decisions.

http://www.nfl.com/stats/categorysta...EAMS.FULL_NAME I didn't say it "wasn't needed." What I said was, it should be the lowest priority on our list of positions that need improving. Why? Because they effect, on average, two plays per game. I can't think of a less important position right now. And unless one of the absolute top 2 or 3 kick returners in the league suddenly become available on the cheap, or they move the kickoff spot back to the 30, I don't see that changing any time soon. Yeah.
Here's the deal on Leonhard returning; Fox knows he has Peyton Manning back there. They aren't going to get a lot of returns anyway playing half the games at altitude. They figure go with the safe choice will always make the right read on the punt (fair catch, no catch, etc.), always catch it and probably not get a lot of yardage and lean on your HOF QB. It would be more explosive to put a younger guy back there, sure. But he's also more likely mis-read the ball, or worse, turn it over in our own territory. |

You know what, its a damn good day when everyone is crying over the lack of a punt returner in DEN after smoking the raiders by the second largest margin in their history
![]() DEN needs better ST's play overall, but it gets put on the backburner every year. Priorities overweigh the upgrading. Fortunately, they are actually playing a little better than the NFL average this year, even with the altitude in home games. However, its nice to see an active thread like this after a SUN shellacking! |

This guy is perfect for Fox, he can secure the ball, gain a few positive yards and then put a HOF QB back on the field. Maybe if we were stuck with Gator boy again this year I could see the need for a burner but PM will get us our Points. |
