If this is EXACTLY true, then its criminal... however, I think this is about to be shot down pretty soon. The author of the book already accounts that a lot of it goes towards the employment services of people within the executive branch. I'd be willing to bet that some, if not a majority, of that $1.4B is going to turn out to be for the cost and expense of running many of the executive branch departments, like commerce, USDA, DOD, ED.... I'll follow it closely. $1.4B for all of the departments that fall under the executive branch really isn't as terrible.

Interesting that 1.4 Billion is EXACTLY the amount that the Obama administration diverted for Vetran Affairs last year.

Just did a quick look over at FactCheck.org. No answer on the OP yet, but some interesting things I did come across:

Presidents and travel:
When Clinton travelled abroad (specifically to China) he took with him about 500 people at a cost of about $2.1Million/day.

When Bush went to England he took with him about 700 people, cost not reported.

When Reagan went to Europe he had 700 to 800 people with him (including press), cost not reported.

Obama to London in 2009 - approximately 500 people, cost not reported.

Also - Obama has travelled less on AirForce One than G. W. Bush.

There was a false report that Obama's trip to India was going to cost $200M/day, that was false and it was more likely to be in line with the same numbers for Clinton's travel.
