Default OT-Buying a new vehicle

Hey I was just asking for any input on a new ride. I'd like to buy and SUV that gets decent mileage. Any and all info on previous buys etc. would be very helpful. I've looked into the GMC terrain, Jeep, Ford Escape, etc...
Thanks!

rav4 gets decent mileage but the extra cost at purchase almost off sets it.. depending on how much you drive. Ford is making nice rides these days.

Do you really need an suv though? Factor up your annual mileage and compare how much you would save with a sedan. Something to consider. Gas wont be going back to $3 ever again it seems. If cost isnt that big a deal then I would look at toyota and nissan

That's what I would ask. The new benchmark will be $5.00 gas by the time this latest stimulus/printing of money cycles through. Factor in the need to tax us more to pay for the mess $5.00/gallon will be reality.

Choose wisely. If you want new then at least consider buying a year or two old, under warranty, that has already depreciated 20+%.

Love our Honda Pilot - don't know what the new models get, but we average a little over 21 MPG in our 2006. Decent cargo space, but has the third row if you need to transport 3 midgets.

Chevy Traverse, wife loves it to haul the little monster around. When I drive it I get around 20mpg. She gets about 17.

Just got the wife a brand new 2013 Ford Escape SEL. Thing is a beast. Fantastic MPG. She's stop and go to work each day and she is getting around 24-25MPG. She probably travels 20+ miles round trip work and back each day and her tank is barely half empty when she fills up on the weekend. Great interior, options, the ecoboost engine really is worth it, and it's Ford. I wanted American made at the end of the day and Ford has really stepped up their game and they didn't take our taxpayer dollars. I'd highly recommend the new Escapes or Edge.

We compared it to the GMC Acadia, Ford Edge (What I want next), Honda Pilot and CRV (Really didn't care for the Hondas).

If you give me more info I can give you great advice. I own a repair shop in Portland and as said before I like to help out Broncos fans. In order of repairs NOT DONE it goes like this

# 1 Toyota
# 2 Hyundai
#3 KIA
#4 Subaru

Now even though Subaru has more repairs done to it the Hyundai or KIA I still rank them higher as # 2 and 3 are more of a disposable car where if you take care of a Sub it will last you forever.

Notes to watch out for.

All wheel drive. If you ruin 1 tire you replace them all.

The more fun stuff you get all the bells and whistles the more problem you will have and the more they will cost.

Never buy a vehicle that states under the hood that this vehicle conforms to California emissions. This will add tons to your repair bill and if Colorado ever goes to there standard you will be grandfathered in.

Wheels and tires. Check to see what size and speed rating they are. Some tires cost as much as 400 dollar a piece now and only get 35k this really adds to cost of the vehicle.

last thing on my mind at the moment is the best way to buy a car is to decided your price and what you want on it. Put your own bid together. Then email it to all the car dealers in your neck of the woods and tell them first one that can make this happen get my money. You will be amazed on what they are willing to do. Make sure they see the list of who you emailed it too as well.

Oh and one more thing. If you go into a car dealership ask for a salesman named BOB. Bob's always seem to get things done. It must be a calling for them . If they don't have a Bob then ask for someone that will let you call them Bob. There will be someone there that will and that is the man that is willing to do anything to make a sell and that is the man you want to talk too.

Feel free to ask me any other question you may have.

Most toyota's are practically american made. I use to work in the camry plant in KY with 8000 other employees and they told us that 80% of the parts are made in the US. The chips and gadgets come from japan and china. We were actually making the camrys they sent to europe and the middle east. the corolla and tundras are made here too. They have a few plants in mexico and canada.

Don't get an all weel drive if you want good mileage. I need 4wd for snow in lake Tahoe. So I fittingly have a Tahoe. Had a 95 Tahoe that went 400,000 miles with just a tranny replacement. Have a 2011 Tahoe and love it.

Might as well get a Miata.

We have to replace the Durango in the next couple of years. My wife is insistent on having a SUV that can transport 7 people though we only do it a couple times a soccer season.

I have had a truck and prefer to have a sedan.

I was hoping to get a 2 year old Durango in about a year or 2, by then the new model should be available used.

I'll admit that I was a little taken aback by this, at first. Now, I have to admit that I think you are brave for revealing this here.

I don't understand, though. Was the first tranny you had just sick of your car? Is that what you're saying?
