Well to be honest this is a good thing to stop the run first and foremost
if you can't stop the run you can't do anything creative on defense
If teams want to throw the ball against Denver I'm all for it cause we can match any team except most teams can't go 80 yards in 2 plays or put 3 80 yards drives up back to back

Well it's kinda like pick your poison. Do you want them to do better against the run or the pass? Cause they can't do both equally well.

Woodyard couldn't cover, had problems bringing down Big Ben, lost contain on the outside a few times, but yeah apart from that he tackled well.

It's just odd that he is small, athletic and yet plays the run better than the pass. I mean this is a guy many thought would play safety coming out of college.

I find it strange also since he was a safety in college before moving to LB because of an injury to one of the starting LB's

this may come as a surprise, but there's probably a better reason why he's not a safety anymore

He had perhaps the worst missed tackle of the day. Ben was flushed to his right and Woodyard and nothing but turf between him and the QB. He literally went running right by him, and Ben ended up converting a third down with about a 30 yard pass down to the Broncos 10 yard line or so. I believe that play led to a touchdown a couple fo plays later.

On another note, does anyone remember the game against Carolina when Shanny started him at safety? Watching that idea collapse into disaster sure was fun.

hahah, I was just reflecting on the Jets game where Shanny trotted out Woodyard and Josh Barrett at safety! Hillis unleashed! Ah, the memories!

If we wanted to dump DJ, they would've done it before the season. He'll be back as soon as his suspension is over. Woody is too big of a liability against the pass, he can't be an everydown LB.

He was a fourth linebacker. They tried a 4-4 that game to try and stem the major run issues we'd been having.

But inaccurately regurgitating information outside of context is pretty cool too.

People need to give it more time. His pass defense might improve, especially since he wont always be playing against a team whose QB doesnt buy extra time so routinely. Conversely, there might also be games where he struggles against the run bringing his % down some.

BTW, I thought that was intersting analysis.

Some things I found interesting:

I like WW. I think he makes an excellent situational depth LB'er, special teamer, etc. But for a fast, athletic, player he absolutely sucks in coverage and it's a passing league.

Let's not forget there was that article about Champ telling everyone to just stop the run and the corners would stop the pass. If the team really took that to heart, they could've been playing run 1st, pass 2nd. Not sure that it should've had that much impact but they did what Champ challenged them to do.

Dude led the team in tackles in 2011 IIRC, and is currently the tackle boss in 2012. He doesn't backpedal and get some PD's or INT's, but he tackles. DJ Williams was right up there with Woodyard as the leading tackler in 2011. Too bad one of those two don't get the PD's and INT's, sure would be nice to see a Bronco LB get some INT's. Been a looooong time since we've seen that.

He's not ever going to be a safety, he just can't cover good enough for that. He's not a great LB either. He's bench material as far as that goes. He is good at ST's and I think that's how he stays in the league. Good ST's and as a back up LB.

With the off the field problems from DJ, Woodyard and Mays not being that great, Irving not showing much still, how can we not draft at 2 LB's in the draft next year. I doubt we find a gem like Miller again, partially because we will be picking last next year () but I'm hoping we can find a nice solid guy in the middle with our 1st or 2nd pick.

I just don't get how some people can't get this fact through their thick skull. Woodyard will not be the starter once DJ comes back people. Just deal with it.
