Manning makes the Donkeys better....PERIODE.....but it does not make them invincible or a lock to win the west.

That's just one example. The only thing that will the Donkey OL and Manning out is his quick release. If not, Manning is in a world of hurt.

Anyway, most other teams don't have the experience the Raiders have with bringing in vets who are on their last leg. We've seen it go well with some guys but not so well with most. That said, Manning would seem to be the type of guy who could take a year off and have multiple surgeries and come back okay from it. But if I were a Denver fan, I'd be cautiously optimistic at best until I saw real results on the field in a real game. And if Manning does go down, that's it. They'll lose every single game he doesn't play in. If it was my job to make predictions, I'd pick Denver to win the division. It's the safest bet. But they're not gonna roll through it like they think they will. |

Very few people are suggesting that we're a lock. We're relatively well positioned, but in no way are we a lock to win the division.

1. Oakland's projected started cornerbacks are Ronald Bartell and Shawntae Spencer. Both players are 30 years old and were released by their previous teams. The Raiders figure to change from their decades-old approach of cornerback and the pieces from the previous regime don't necessarily fit.
2. Starting middle linebacker Rolando McClain hasn't performed to his draft level and he's facing 180 days in prison. If McClain has to go to jail during the season, untested third-year player Travis Goethel is projected to start. The other starting linebackers are Aaron Curry and free agent pickup Philip Wheeler. There are a lot of moving parts here. There aren't many difference makers. 3. The defensive line should lead the way, but it's worth noting Richard Seymour and Tommy Kelly are not exactly ascending players. Seymour is the consummate pro but he can't be expected to dominate at age 33. Seymour is set to make $15 million, a figure worthy of a dominating player. Kelly will make $6 million. 4. Allen would love to show 3-4 fronts this year, but he doesn't yet have the personnel to do it. 5. This is a defense is transition. We know Allen is creative, but there are no easy answers with a cornerback group as shaky as this one. This team finished 29th in both points and yards allowed last year. We wouldn't expect much improvement from the group this year, which will be tough to take for a defensive-minded coach like Allen ![]() |

Yes you did. That was all the talk before the game by the announcers. This was the Denver Peyton Manning's dress rehearsal and the first time they were going to play like they would in a regular season game.

And what's wrong with pointing out that we threw the ball way more than we would in a normal situation? That's just the truth. You wrongly conclude that me giving a bigger picture than what the stats say is that I think our offense is going to be a prolific scoring machine. It's not. For analysis like that, ask 9175; he seems to enjoy perpetuating the Raider fan stereotype. Quote:

The reason the Broncos defense improved in 2011 wasn't Allen. It was drafting Von Miller and Elvis Dumervil returning from a torn pec. Last time I checked the only legitimate pass rush specialist in oakland left town along with your leading rusher and best corner. |

They basically replaced Wimbley with Wheeler and Dave Tollefson who had 5 sacks last year to Wimbley's 7 or whatever it was.

People overrate Routt. He has zero feel for the game and is only good turning and running with a guy. We figure to run a multiple look defense and not the dopey single high safety, no blitz, every snap with man outside. I think he will struggle in KC much the way Asomougha did in Philly when asked to do anything but get his hands on the receiver and knock him off his route. |

Routt did commit a ton of penalties but will have the luxury of being a #2 in kc (thank goodness the hunt's are so cheap and let Carr go) but he's still better than Bartell or Spencer. |

Megatron had 1 catch for 7 yards. So they must be doing something right.
Spencer and Bartell have experience in defenses that play in multiple schemes rather than the standard four-man line with a single deep safety and man-to-man coverage the Raiders have always run. Routt's inability to play zone made him a poor fit even without his absurd contract. I think the Chiefs got fools gold there. The guy is a penalty machine. |

Bartell & Spencer have a total of 19 interceptions in 15 combined seasons. Defensive minded Jeff Fisher cut Bartel paid Finnegan 50 million dollars took a chance on drafting Janoris Jenkins. What does that tell you? |

Big deal! Raiders are going to kick their way to wins. Expect their offense to score 21 points a game....7 field goals and not INTs (not returned for touchdowns).
Amazing a teams loses their good pieces in the offseason and thier fans still think they just got better. They are the Cubs of the NFL except many don't bother to go to the games when they suck. Safety then becomes a reality when going to Oakland. |
