Unless Trout starts a slump, Cabrera will once again finish second 2nd in the MVP voting. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

Its just pathetic, but Scoscia should be fired (and then hung) if this happens.
Better overall player?

I think Mike Trout has a great future....but look at Miguel Cabrera's resume to this point and then try telling me Trout is a better overall player in almost every way.

Trout has done it for 89 games, Miguel Cabrera has done it for 10 years.

Also....Trout hasn't missed 1/3 of the season.

He was called up on April 28th. He probably missed 15 to 20 games total.

Kid is a special talent, but it doesn't negate the fact that Miguel Cabrera is having an awesome year as well.

R.A. Dickey with another Cy Young worthy outing tonight.

Complete game. 9 innings 5 hits 1 ER 0 BB 10 Ks.

15-3 on the season. 166 Ks in 162.1 innings pitched with a 2.72 ERA.

Austin Jackson with a triple and an inside the park home run tonight.

First Detroit Tiger to do that in a game since Steve Kemp in 1977.

Nice to see Austin Jackson play well versus Texas.

He is from Denton, Texas, which is about 40 miles north of Arlington, Texas.

Tigers beat the Rangers 6-2 tonight.

Prince Fielder with an Earl Weaver Special....a 3 run HR.

Prince is batting .313 with 20 HRs and 84 RBIs....I'll take that.

Max Scherzer with a solid outing....Rangers Ballpark against that lineup is no easy task.

6 innings 8 hits 2 ER 2 BB and 8 Ks.

11-6 on the year and a major league leading 168 Ks in 133.2 innings pitched. ERA of 4.65 (higher than I'd like).

I'll take it for a 3rd/4th starting pitcher in the rotation. Scherzer has improved as the season has progressed.

His 7.77 ERA in 5 April starts kind of screwed his ERA early on.

Keep an eye on Baltimore 3B Manny Machado.

Machado is barely 20 years old and was called up the other day.

He is super talented and is one of the most prized prospects in baseball.

He hit 2 HRs with 4 RBIs in his second game in the majors tonight.

Lot of young talent making their mark this year.

I like seeing young talent shine....I think baseball is going to be loaded with some studs for the next few decades.

I'm not saying Miggy is a lock for MVP, but I think he has a better chance than you think.

Not to mention, there are still over 50 games yet to be played....basically 1/3 of the season left.

In general, the guys who smack 40+ HRs with 130-140 RBIs, while hitting in the .330 range tend to win MVP awards.

Chicks (and MVP voters) dig the long ball.

That said, I really enjoy watching Mike Trout play....dude is a phenom.
I guess you dont realize that Trout was in Salt Lake City the first month of the season. That first month saw the Angels in last place.....even behind the Mariners. Since his call up, the Angels have been damn good up to the All Star break. Trout was the 5th person to hit a homerun on his 21st bday.....21 years old! Dude is going to have about 35 homeruns at least, maybe 50 stolen bases, possible gold glove and is a lead off hitter! CHicks and MVP voters dig Trout. He is a 5 tool player. 35 homers as a lead off hitter and missed the first month? You are putting Maggs in front of that? I am a homer but have good reason to back Trout as he has accomplished MVP numbers personally and for his team. No one can say this right now except Trout!

Now on to the other Tigers homer....

IMO Trout will have to step it up quite a bit to catch Cabrera for the MVP.
Congrats on Cabrera's Fantasy baseball award. See my post above.

You forgot to mention that he was in the minor leagues for a month while Angels sucked and wow(!) Angels started to kick ass when he was in the lineup full time. He is also a leadoff hitter with now 23 homeruns! He has about 40 SB. He is a defensive stud. Just came back from the game tonight where we were losing 5 to 0 in the 3rd inning against Felix Hernandez. Screwed? We should have been until he belts a 3 run HR (his 23rd). Next time he is up, he gets a sacrifice fly that scores two runs! He hits it so far in the corner that he gets his 5th rbi to tie the game off of the ace pitcher for the Mariners. We win in the bottom of the 9th.

This award is his to lose. Only thing I see him doing as a negative lately is striking out more than his normal self. He will be almost a 40-40 guy this season as a lead off hitter. Look how many RBIs he has. He will be probably be over 85 to 90 rbis and leads off. MVP= Trout!

Get his baseball cards as an investment. Glad I bought one for $3 and already $15 two months later. He is going to be special for years to come.

BTW, I love Cabrera when he isnt boozing. A great player but Trout is the flavor of the month right now. Actually, I think that flavor won't get stale for awhile.

Derek Jeter notched his 150th hit on the season Saturday to tie Hank Aaron as the only players to record 17 straight seasons with at least 150 hits.

Jeter is having an outstanding season at 38 years old, batting .319 and on pace for 217 hits.

Chris Sale strikes out 11 and moves to 14-3 on the year with a win against the A's. I just hope he stays healthy. We're up 2 games on Detroit. I frankly don't expect them to be able to hold the Tigers off, but it would be nice if they could pull it off, or get in as a WC. The White Sox have overachieved a great deal this year and I'm glad to see it....a playoff berth would be the cherry on top.

The White Sox, gotta hand it to them, have been doing very well so far of holding off the Tigers. The Indians folded like a paper hat. They've got great pitching and timely hitting.

Doug Fister has finally gotten healthy the 2nd half of the season and it's showing.

Another nice outing tonight.

Miggy with more 3 hits tonight and he drove home his major league leading 100th and 101st RBIs on the season.

Thankfully, it was the other Cabrera.

I was puzzled about why Cabrera was so good this year after being so mediocre with the Yankees. I know going from AL to NL helps a lot of players but his improvement was a little ridiculous. This may help explain that.

No one is comparing a career. Cabrera is one of the best , NL or AL as he has proven. We are speaking of this year. Trout missed a month of games. We started around the 1st and I don't believe he started the first few games as Bourjos, Trumbo and Hunter were in the outfield.

I guess people forget he actually had a very good year last year for the Royals. Was a completely mediocre/average OF for his career, then he turned into a good OF for the Royals and now an All Star for the Giants. Interesting....

MINNEAPOLIS -- Miguel Cabrera became the first player in Tigers history to reach 30 home runs in five straight seasons and Max Scherzer threw seven scoreless innings for Detroit in a 5-1 victory over the Minnesota Twins on Wednesday.

Cabrera also singled in the fifth off Cole De Vries (2-4) to push his majors-leading total to 103 RBIs. His opposite-field solo shot in the first inning put the Tigers in front, and Scherzer (12-6) struck out 10 batters to move ahead of teammate Justin Verlander for the AL lead for at least a few days. Delmon Young added a two-run homer against his former team.
