China is a very backward, screwed up country in many ways. I think they're something like 16,000,000 short on females due to gender-selective abortions, so a lot of males are without women. It wouldn't surprise me if that were behind this crime in some way. They have zero animal protection laws last I heard, and they treat animals terribly. Animals are tortured for aphrodisiacs, etc., and ones used for food are kept in very cruel manner.
