Tigers win 7-1 and are in first place....they hadn't been there since April 26th.
Rick Porcello failed to get the complete game, but still went 8+ impressive innings. |

DETROIT -- The Chicago White Sox acquired Houston reliever Brett Myers on Saturday for two minor league pitchers and a player to be named.
Myers had 19 saves and a 3.52 ERA for the Astros this season and will try to bolster an inexperienced Chicago bullpen. Addison Reed, Chicago's 23-year-old closer, has 15 saves but a 4.24 ERA. Rookie Nate Jones has a 3.57 ERA in 35 appearances. |

Justin Smoak needs to get the **** out of Major League Baseball.
How can you be three for your last 30? It isn't even a respectable .100 batting average. . . not that there ever such a thing. Point is: Smoak's going down hard. Just whiffin' the **** out of the air and batting at balls like a mentally retarded child with a fly swatter. At this point you can't even send him down to AAA because it isn't even going to matter. He has got to be the biggest let down on our roster. He has to go. |

Oakland A's are quietly a very good team and playing some solid baseball. Going for the 4 game sweep against the best team in baseball (by record) today.

Miguel Cabrera has gone yard twice (22nd,23rd) today, the last one being the 300th HR of his career.
Miggy is only 29 years old and has some impressive career numbers already: .318 career average, 300 HRs, and 1,063 RBIs. |

The Tigers beat the White Sox 6-4 today and finished off a 3 game sweep of the White Sox to take a 1.5 game lead in the division.
21 year old Jacob Turner pitched a decent game and earned his first major league win today. |

With 1,723 hits and 1,063 RBIs before 30 years old, be could very easily be looking at 3,000+ hits and 2,000+ RBIs for his career. |

COOPERSTOWN, N.Y. -- Barry Larkin lost it before he even started. Vicki Santo never wavered as she honored her late husband, Ron.
Baseball's highest honor always seems to leave a special impression on those directly involved. Larkin, the former star shortstop for the Cincinnati Reds, and Ron Santo, a standout third baseman for the Chicago Cubs and later a beloved broadcaster for the team, were inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum. |

A deal that would send Chicago Cubs right-hander Ryan Dempster to the Atlanta Braves has been agreed to by both teams, pending the player's approval, a source told ESPNChicago.com's Bruce Levine.
The deal, a source told ESPN.com MLB Insider Keith Law, would send Atlanta right-hander Randall Delgado to Chicago in exchange for Dempster. |

You don't understand. Imagine if Elway moved to the Raiders the last three years of his career. What do you do? You can't hate Elway if you love him. You want to see him win. But you hate the Raiders and you choke at the thought of them winning another championship.
This is... I have no words for this. It's like swallowing the biggest ball of suck, and choking on it. |

What I get a kick out of it is Yankee fans thinking this is such a huge move for them. Ichiro is washed up and done.

This team is crap right now. It is incredibly young with no veteran leadership to speak of. Smoak was finally optioned to AAA (he will never get better, he's a loser) and Ackley has been batting rancid since the end of May. Seager has hit a wall. The only bright spots on the team are Jaso, Felix and some relief pitching, but Wilhelmsen will be dealt too. The Mariners have arms for days, but don't have any hitters. No hitter wants to play at Safeco anyways. They have to move in the fences. |

I don't think most rational Yankee fans feel this way. But it was a low/no risk move for them and I think Ichiro will play better for the Yanks than he has for the Mariners. More protection in the lineup, different atmosphere, higher standards, etc. And he hits better outside of Safeco.

Ichiro Suzuki apparently wanted the New York Yankees even more than the Yankees wanted him.
Before completing a trade to acquire the Japanese star, the Yankees spelled out a list of conditions to Ichiro, a former American League MVP and two-time batting champion. Ichiro would be asked to switch positions, hit at the bottom of the lineup and possibly sit against left-handed pitching. "He was fully educated on all our requirements," Yankees general manager Brian Cashman told ESPNNewYork.com. "One by one, every box got ticked off." http://espn.go.com/new-york/mlb/stor...agreeing-trade |

The Los Angeles Dodgers took advantage of the Miami Marlins' July sell-off to add an impact bat early Wednesday morning, acquiring infielder Hanley Ramirez in a four-player trade.
The Dodgers acquired Ramirez and reliever Randy Choate from Miami for pitcher Nathan Eovaldi and a minor leaguer, a source told ESPN.com's Jerry Crasnick. Several reports have said the minor leaguer is Scott McGough, a 22-year-old right-handed pitcher. |

PITTSBURGH -- The surprising Pittsburgh Pirates are getting serious about their playoff push, acquiring pricey lefty Wandy Rodriguez in a trade Tuesday night with the Houston Astros.
They are sending Triple-A All-Star Rudy Owens and Colton Cain, both left-handers, and outfielder Robbie Grossman to Houston. |
