Doing hard-core drugs for years, as Josh Hamilton did during his time away from the game, has a serious impact on your body in a myriad of ways.

Doubtful he'd get away with doing opiates being tested 2-3 times weekly.

That will be perhaps the most interesting free agent case of all time. How many years will he get? From who? He's the best player in baseball when he's right but comes with so much baggage.

I know he has relapsed on alcohol a few times....but this makes me wonder if the is relapsing on opiates now and then.

The biggest side effect of opiate withdrawal is intestinal issues and flu like symptoms....basically when you quit taking them it feels like you have the worst case of flu for several days.

I'm not saying he's taking heroin or popping/snorting oxys or taking percocet or vicodin....but 31 year old athletes usually don't get intestinal issues/flu as many times as he does.

I really hope that isn't the case, but he sure is showing classic signs of opiate withdrawal and he's already relapsed on alcohol a few times recently, so it's not out of the realm of possibility.

You are correct as I thought he beat the record by at least 200. Once he got the manager gig, he played only the last month of the season for a few years. If he didn't get the opportunity to manage, I am sure he would have still been on the 25 (or was it 24 then) roster and still came out again and hit even more than what he ended with for his career. No one can ever take away what Ty Cobb did even with worse fields, gloves and only whitey. He dominated the hitting game.

Add to that the fact that anyone who thinks Rose stuck around just for the record obviously never watched the guy play. Players who care about records (especially longevity records) don't do things like run a catcher over in an All-Star game. You don't get a nickname like Charlie Hustle.

Alex Rodriguez hit his 11th HR of the year today (640th career HR).

That gives him 1,925 career RBIs, which is 8th all-time.

Hank Aaron owns the all-time record with 2,297 career RBIs.

Only 3 players (Aaron, Ruth, Anson) have hit the 2,000 RBI mark.

A-Rod turns 37 next month and strikes me as the kind of guy who would like to own major records when he is done playing, and I don't fault him for that.

Let's say A-Rod gets 50 more RBIs this year....which would put him at 1,975 RBIs, leaving him 323 RBIs short of passing the record.

If he played 4 more years and averaged 81 RBIs, he would pass Hank Aaron and be the all-time leader in RBIs.

As for HRs....A-Rod has 640 career HRs.

Barry Bonds holds the record with 762 HRs.

A-Rod's power has been decreasing the last few years.

Let's say he hits 15 more this year....that would leave him at 655 career HRs.

He would still need 107 more HRs to pass Bonds.

That would be 4 more years and 27.0 HRs per year to own the record.

I think A-Rod has about an equal chance of breaking the RBI and HR record now that I look at the numbers....with a slight edge to RBIs.

He could really used a 35+ 110 RBI season somewhere in the next 4 year to help him out.

It's really hard to tell....you get to his age and you can hit a steep decline at any time....and his power number are starting to decrease.

I'd give A-Rod about a 50/50 shot of breaking both records.

After ARod's 2007 season, I thought he would be a slam dunk to break Aaron's and Bonds' records.
Then the injuries started coming up, and factor in the diminishing numbers now, I don't know.
Add in the hits too, he will have scary numbers.
Say he plays 4 more years, and breaks Aaron and Bonds, he will likely have 3,300+ hits, 2,000+ runs scored, 2,300+ RBI's, 760+ homeruns, etc.
However, all of that could crumble down if Albert Pujols regains his former glory.

Detroit beat St. Louis 2-1 in 10 innings today.

21 year old Jacob Turner had a solid first start of the year this afternoon: 5 innings 4 hits 1 ER 5 BB 3 Ks.

Big win....Tigers take 2 out of 3 games for the 4th consecutive series.

Quintin Berry with the game winning hit....I like watching him play.

27 year old rookie with a lot of time in the minors. No power at all....but good glove, super fast, and is scrappy.

You can tell he's hungry and wants to stay in The Show.

I said it was a solid start, not an outstanding start.

The kid turned 21 not long ago....he had a few starts last year that were shaky....I'll take the start he had yesterday.

Better than pitching 2 innings and giving up 9 earned runs.

The Tigers are counting on Jacob Turner, so I take this start as a step in a positive direction.

He certainly wasn't dominating, but I'll take the win.

Schilling said during a 90-minute interview on WEEI-FM in Boston that he put more than $50 million of his own money in the company and that he's had to tell his family that "the money I saved during baseball was probably all gone."

"I'm tapped out," he said.
