Don't understand how someone said that the overall depth in Euros is better than World Cup, so I'm curious to hear your take on that. Regardless of that, I'm looking forward to some good footballing through June, before the letdown that is the u-23 Olympic product.
Just like there's no easy outs in the Euro tournament like there are in the World Cup.

Yeah. I guess "depth" wasn't technically the right word, but a much less diluted pool. Italy, Spain, Netherlands etc have to fight just to advance from their group play, whereas in the WC they practically stroll into the second elimination round most times.

As this article points out, "a host nation, Italy, Germany, Brazil or another South American outfit have won every WC except the most recent" whereas "in the 13 tournaments since its inception in 1956, nine different teams have hoisted the Euro trophy." Germany is the only outlier to this parity, having won three times. The bloodbath has occasionally allowed teams like Greece or Denmark (very very solid teams in global scheme, but underdogs in this setting) to win it all, something we've never seen in the WC.

Over the last 3 FIFA tournaments, 6 (2010), 8 (2006), 6 (2002) 20 teams have finished the group stage with 0 and 1 total points, the breakdown of those teams: 6 African teams, 4 European teams, 6 Asian teams and 4 North and Central American teams.

Asia sends 4 teams to each tournament, that means 50% of all Asian teams have earned 0 or 1 point.

Africa sends 5 to each tournament, more than 33% of all African teams earned 0 or 1 point.

Concacaf sends 3, that means abbout 45% of all Concacaf teams earn 0 or 1 point.

Europe sends 13 teams, that means about 11% of European teams earn 0 or 1 point.

For reference, 0% of 5 or 6 South American teams earned 0 or 1 point, and New Zealand earned more than 1 point the one time they went.

Check out this story that aired on ESPN. One of the greatest teams to ever play the game.... They sacrificed their lives for the game.

Why is this thread named UEFA when it is dealing with Euro 2012? When posting about UEFA, please do, when posting about EURO2012 please do, but please express to the OP that they got it wrong please... UEFA is basically saying SciFi when talking only specifically about Star Wars or Star Trek... So when someone starts talking about Firefly (which is SciFi) they look like idiots - because the topic isn't SciFi - it's Star Wars...

Or do none of you understand that?

You do realize that UEFA is putting this tournament on right? I left the first few posts of yours alone, but now you're calling us out for being right.

It's the UEFA Euro 2012 cup. Goddamn raider fans.

UEFA = Union of European Football Associations. Google is your friend.

While you are correct they put on the Champions league as well, they do a whole lot more than that.

And, by the way, the Champions league is over and Chelsea FC won it, so no reason to root for your reds, because The Blues already have the Cup.

I know that...

GO LIVERPOOL!!!!

GO BAYERN!!!!

That's UEFA ... but are you specifically talking about the EURO Cup? I believe that the Champions League is over...

ALSO - does UEFA have it's own cup? WHY YES IT DOES!!! Is that what you're talking about? The UEFA CUP? The thread is called the UEFA THREAD... Are you talking about what? The UEFA Cup? That's over... Chelsea won against my Bayern... OR are you talking about the Champions League?

Or just UEFA general... Then..

GO LIVERPOOL!!!!!

Don't be a dink. Given the timing of this thread, and the opening post, it's pretty obvious what he's referring to.
