I read that you can put water and soap in, and let it run for 30 seconds to clean itself? What do you think?

I'm seriously so tempted. It's rare that you find a product where all the reviews on Amazon are 5 stars.

That's exactly what I do. I put some hot water in, one squirt of soap, let it run for 30 seconds. I rinse it, dry it, and put it away.

The messy part is the tamper (if you have to use it), and maybe knives and a cutting board if you need to cut up your ingredients. I drop a paper towel down for the tamper. And most stuff I can easily just cut up on that. When cutting up a pineapple, I break out the cutting board.

I've only owned mine for 4 days now, but I'm certain I'm going to get a lot of use out of it.

Don't forget to dry off the blades. I don't want to buy rusty blades in six months.

It may look like a blender, but believe me it's not. We mainly bought it for my son. He has to have everything the consistency of pureed baby food. We put everything we eat for a regular dinner and make his dinner for him. It will make steak and potatoes into a puree in about a minute. I tried that with a regular blender once, and burned up the motor in about a minute with it not reducing the steak any further than big chunks.

The peple that don't like them are the people that never owned (used) one.

Read the posts again, everyone that has used one raves about them.

Oh, man. Why does he have to have everything pureed?

Oh, I forgot all about it... There is a cheaper alternative to the Vitamix.

The RPM Blender:

I thought about this one after watching this video:

The problem with that machine is it does not break down the cell walls of the greens where as the VitaMix and Blend Tec do. This is important because that is the way the nutriants are released. The idea is to get the maxium nutritional value out of the expensive organic foods you are taking into your body.

say you buy a VitaMix for 500 dollars and you use it everyday for 20 years

Thats 20 X 365 or 7300 days. $500 divided into 7300 is .068 cents a day for this wonderful machine that will make your food nutritionally available to you. Not a bad deal.

I suppose you could just eat a balanced diet chewing your food slowly and thoroughly also.

I used to own one, but this wide-load, stupid-whore, ghetto-minded, dumb biotch that I used to have as a roommate took it with her as she packed all her crap and moved out unexpectedly while I was at work. Almost twelve years ago. Yep. Still bitter.

Bump.

I just bought one. I didn't follow any recipes for my first drink, I'm sure the sink thought it was delicious.

They make it look so easy... ಠ_ಠ

The Blendtec WildSide seems to be all the rage in blenders these days.

We just bought one at Costco yesterday and the sales guy said the same thing. Hot water and spin it up. Said if you put it in the dishwasher the soap granules eventually get stuck in it an wear it down.

I have both, a Blendtec and a VitaMix. Over time I have found I like the Blendtec a little better. I like the results you get from using the pre programed buttons. One push and a cycle is run giving you a perfectly blended drink every time. Both are easy to clean if you run the container under water immediately after use. I never need to use soap if I follow that rule.

How much did you pay at Cosco? Is in the 5200 with a variable speed knob?

Yeah that's the one and since it was demo day we were able to get it for $350 but with the single carafe which is fine for us right now.
