OT - What will you do to celebrate the Apollo 13 anniversary? - The Orange Mane

Tonight at 10:05 EST will mark the 42nd anniversary of the O2 explosion of Apollo 13.

I reread the Kranz Dictum and will watch Apollo 13 again with the kids tomorrow in honor of the event.

Plus there will be a moment of silence in the house at 10:05 EST, only because the kids should be asleep by that time.

What are you going to do to honor the event that proved Gene Kranz was the greatest flight director and project manager ever?

Gee, I hadn't thought about it. But I do remember my family being glued to the TV during that almost tragic epidsode. I guess I could do a moment of silence also, in honor of Gene.....and you.

I feel bad for Sy Leibergot, he was at the EECOM console when the explosion happened and if you listen to the NASA loops you can tell the amount of stress he was under trying to diagnose the issue.

It took them a long time to realize they were venting and there was real trouble. It is amazing they were able to save that crew.

I drove by Kranz Street on my way home from picking up a pizza for dinner.

Toledo is where Gene Kranz was born and raised.

, The stuff with the Astronauts is accurate, Haise got the urinanry tract infection because of the cold Dr B could explain how those things happen better than I could.

They used liberties with the MOCR team, they had to combine some people to make the movie make sense to the public. Gene never said Failure is not an option.

The biggest gaff that pisses me off everytime I watch the movie was that they had Gene in a white vest. His wife made him a new white vest for every splash down day. They had him in it the whole movie. It was kinda nice that they mentioned his wife made it, it was a big meme for the MOCR guys at the time.

Strange enough, I care more about the Titanic sinking than I do the Apollo 13 mission. But I guess I won't be doing anything special for either.

People died on the Titanic. Kranz ensured that the crew returned home alive.
